I just recently purchased an Armalite NM lower, and a RRA Varminter upper(20" Wilson
Stainless Bull Barrel, with a Wylde Chamber). The barrel has a .75 MOA guarantee on it,
and after my first trip to the range, I had that beat easily. I usually take 2 or 3 bolt guns
to the range, for load development, scope zero checks, or just to practice, and I take this
new AR-15. I quickly get through the bolt gun groups, so I can spend the rest of my
time burning up .223 Rem. ammo. I have been sucked into the dark side of these
"rat guns", too. I too once had a strong preference for the M-14, and still caress
them like a long lost friend, but this AR-15 has her hooks in me bad.
Yesterday, I took a M1911A1 to the range to let a friend try one before he ordered
one, and I dragged the AR-15 along. He had never fired one before. After he
warmed up to the strange lines of the gun, and started printing sub MOA groups
on the targets, I think I see another one being pulled to the dark side. And he
thought he just needed an new 1911(grin).
