Need a Stock recomendation?
« on: February 03, 2012, 12:16:40 AM »
Sent my receiver in for a 357 with open sights. What is the best stock style for ability to clearly see the open sights and also use a mounted scope.

DH#1,

Low comb generally works best with the open sights.  A Monte Carlo style can make it impossible to get low enough to see the rear sight.   FWIW, I have several low comb stocks on scoped rifles and the lack of a cheek piece doesn't bother me at all.

Only you'll be able to tell, lots of members prefer low combed stocks for scoped rifles, some can't use a monte carlo cuz they're too high, on the other hand, some monte carlo stocks are just fine with irons, they aren't all the same height just as all our faces aren't shaped the same.  ;)

Or get a Monte Carlo, then if you can't get your face low enough to see the irons you take a rasp to the comb until it's right for you for both open sights and scope, sand it smooth and finish it off.  I had to do that with the first Handi I had, a .30-06.
