Browning BLR or Ruger #1 ?
« on: January 21, 2004, 10:11:41 AM »
In getting a nice predator/deer rifle in .243 I'm not sure of which to get—the Browning BLR or a Ruger #1. They are both kind of unique, but I have never had either, nor do I know anyone who has had either. Who has  had experience with one or both, and which one do you suggest, and why? (Also posting this in the lever action forum.)

Many thanks! :cb2:

A BLR I don't have but I do have three No.!'s and they are GREAT.  Would recommend them to everyone.  Lawdog

I've got one of each, a 22-250 BLR and a No. 1 in 25-06.  I prefer the No. 1 to the BLR, mainly because I shoot alot and the barrel on the BLR heats up pretty fast.  As far as which rifle I'd rather carry, the BLR wins as it is considerably lighter.  I bought a comb-raising kit for the Browning for better scope alignment and it made shooting the gun more comfortable to me.  If I could have only one, I'd go with the No. 1.  Let us know whatever you decide!

I've never owned a BLR. I do own a Ruger #1 in .45-70, with heavy 28" barrel. It's a heavy rifle, with full length Lyman scope, but I love it! I'd go with the #1 myself, but I like single shot rifles more!

Having owned both rifles in the past I would say that it is entirely dependent upon where and what you hunt. Either can get the job done. Persnally if I hunt in dense cover I use a lever gun but my first choice is to hunt open country with a single shot in 25/06. And personally I just prefere the single shot period. Can`t give a reason for it . I just do. Best of luck. POW
