30-30 Handi and Ga. Pigs
« on: February 04, 2012, 04:16:13 PM »
Friday morning right at daylight this one moved through the pasture with a fairly fresh litter. Once she made it to about 125 yards and cleared the cattle the 30-30 over the porch railing done the job.

Looks like a nice sized sow.  Now all you have to do is get the piglets.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

Shooting them off the porch would be my kinda huntin ;D  Don't think I'd like the yard work they'd give me though. Maybe an odd question but do all of them only have four teets?

Do you know what she weighed?

What bullet and weight did you use. Factory or reload? Nice pig/dead pig ;D

Hornady Leverevolution. Not my property, my cousin has a lease there and this property is across the driveway from his camp. The owner of the lease and the owner of the pasture have an agreement to shoot only hogs. My cousin got one of the past summer's piglets also. Just the right size to go on a grill.

How does the meat compare to store bought pork chops, bason etc? There are a few game preserves near me that offer high fence russian boar hunting. Not normally my style but its the only way to hunt that animal for me.

Baked one of the hams for dinner tonight. Not bad, but i think I prefer the crock pot. I think these were well fed on peanuts and hunt club corn so they weren't gamey at all.

Sounds like i would be out hunting them all the time if i lived in an area that had a good population.

I have seen a few tv shows on discovery channel and a&e regarding hog hunting, looks like alot of fun to me

I have enjoyed Smithfield hams over the years and they are advertised as being peanut fed......   good score! ;D

Very nice shot.  Congrats on the kill.
