(Reuters) - Inmates working at a Vermont correctional unit's print shop managed to sneak a prank image of a pig into a state police crest that is emblazoned on police cars, and 30 cruisers sported the design for the last year, officials said on Thursday.

Yea-uh, if this is true, the Vermont State Police will have to get over the embarrassment and have their emblems corrected but, guess what.  The smartypants inmates will still be behind bars and probably will be for a longer period as a result of their great intelligence.  They'll have lots of time to contemplate whether it was worth it.

Strange that you said that since it was linked to the fairly professional Reuters.  Still, anything is possible I guess.  Since the story made me laugh, and I want others to read the story and smile, I spent about 30 seconds on research.

I agree +1 . I try never to post unless citing legitimate sources and as much as possible post links to full story. You would have assumed the link I provided to reuters would have been enough to satisfy. But I guess not ... Thanks for the followup Dukkiller.

Oh yea, it's true. When I read about it on the Burlington Free press webpage their were about 60 comments at that
time and about 55 thought it was funny and the rest mad. I think that the super of the inmates print shop may be
in hot water over this. The bad part it's going to cost  taxpayers about $1000. to $1300. to make and replace
the new VSP decals.

When i was in the Air Force we ha a girl in the paint shop that would put a certain part of a mans anatomy on the left side of the tails of the jets she repainted  look like a elongated bown bit of camo paint .. we always knew what plane Annie painted.. She went on to the ThundeBirds

What I find ridiculous is they are even going to replace them at any cost to the tax payer.
Before someone finally pointed it out , They decals been on the cars for four years now.
leave 'em on till normal re-decaling cycle is needed , or car is traded in.
The inmates are in hot water? what are they going to do put them in jail ? (just joking)

I live in VT and know a few State Troopers and seen this emblem many times and never noticed the pig on the cows body. This has been on the cars for 4 years now. Apparently no one else noticed it either.

On the other hand no one had noticed this over the last 4 years, so why didn't they replace it when it was noticed and most of us would have never been aware of it.

The inmate that designed this must have been having a good laugh over the years. ( Maybe not now.)

I think it was a funny prank, no one was hurt, everyone should have had a little chuckle out of this and if you can't see a little humor in it you need to get a life.

Those VT state police need to relax a bit more,
They take things too seriously
1,000.00 to fix! Are they Serious!
a little bottle of touch up paint from the auto store
and a few minutes would solve the problem for
under about 10 bucks! Somebody is wasting a lot of money
up there! Voters ought to be thankful for the cons pointing it out!!

The pig hidden within the red cows was first noticed last week, years after it was hidden there by a prison inmate who designed the 16-inch decals. There’s now a movement under way to keep it there. But it turns out there was more wrong with that image than just the white pig hidden as a splotch on the cow, made to resemble one of Vermont’s ubiquitous Holsteins. State law requires that the cow in the crest be red — not red and white — as a tribute to the hardy Devon cattle first brought to Vermont by English settlers. “What I would really like is for the governor to just leave the pigs on the car. That’s the bottom line, at no expense to anybody,” said Barre musician Cid Sinclair, who created the Facebook page “Save the Vermont Pigs.” The site has been liked by more than 500 people. Two hundred people have signed an online petition, he said. “No harm, no foul, take it as an opportunity to have some fun,” Sinclair said. “We live in pretty bleak times and it’s pretty rough. We have an opportunity to laugh together as one, as Vermonters.” The pigs in the 16-inch decal were first noticed last week by a state police trooper who was washing his car. The crest is believed to have been altered by a Vermont prison inmate who made the image several years ago. The pigs, a derogatory term for police, are on about 30 cruisers. The Department of Corrections said last week that new decals would be made at a cost of $780. But state police spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro said Thursday that so far none of the offending decals had been removed. She said officials had been made aware of the state law that requires the cow in the crest to be red but had been told it was OK to use the existing emblem. “We value our emblem and what it represents for our state and our agency and we want to be in compliance,” Dasaro said.
