Hi Point carnage
« on: February 05, 2012, 06:46:45 AM »
This pistol belongs to a friend of mine.
The incident took place during a CC class I haven't gotten a chance to examine the gun.
It's a 9mm and was firing factory U.S. made ammo. After about 15 rounds the gun exploded showering by standers with parts.
The shooter had cuts on both hands and powder burns, his sister was standing to his right and was splattered in the face with hot parts.

Now that would cause a flinch.  Doesn't Hi Point have a lifetime warranty?

Well, I hope no one was seriously hurt.  Its hard to tell from the pic, but seeing the frame damage in the grip area, I wonder if a case head let go.  The pistol may have fired before being in complete battery.  I once owned (now in the bottom of a lake) a Taurus 9mm pistol that would unlock before pressure had dropped, causing a case head blow out.  Fortunately the gun held together, with most of the damage confined to the grip area and the magazine.

Personal opinion is a good thing, and everyone is entitled to one.  The hard part is separating informed opinion from someone who is just blowing hot air....

That would definitely lead to flinching!
I'd say Highpoint is gonna want that one back. Don't think I'd keep the replacement though...

Hope the ones who got hit with the parts are okay.

Also, didn't Freedom Arms get hit with a 50/50 responsibility suit that was in the 100's of thousands because some bozo shot himself in the leg while trying to "unlimber" his piece. He wasn't aware that carrying a live round under the pin was dangerous.  I'm thinking I'd be seein a, gasp, hack, choke, spit, hurrumph,........shys...uh, lawyer. maybe.. :-\
