Common prices for Handi Rifles
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:53:58 AM »
Yesterday the moon and stars aligned. I did not work the weekend, and it was cold and rainy so I went to a gun show which is something I don't get to do often.  I was surprised at the prices on the handi rifles.  There were several .17 rimfires with scopes marked Sportster one was new priced at $199 and one was used priced at $225.  There were two used .22 sportsters priced $155 and  $190 , a used 30-30 priced $300 and a new 44 Mag marked SB2 on the barrel at $298.  I also saw a used  500 S&W that the vendor wanted $600 for.  Are these common and appropriate prices now.  I have 3 centerfire Handi rifles all purchased used at local shops in the $200 range and a .22 rimfire that I pad $110 for so the prices seemed high to me.  CAB

The 500S&W may have been customized, there have been several discussed here in the past with brakes, custom stocks and other modifications. Perhaps the best source for comparing new prices is CTD, better prices than Bud's which used to be better, Bud's is selling the 17hmr Sportster for $185 shipped CTD has none in stock to compare.

Average used  price here is in the 200 dollar range, 250 with some brand of bubble packed Chinese scope mounted.  I paid 200 for my like new 30-30 last summer, since its doing all I wanted it to do, I am really glad I bought it.

Used should go 200 but I see them for 250 all the time and that's 20 bucks less than new. Go figure.  Sometimes I see them more for used than new.

Used ones sell for $175 to $200 minus a scope.  They are priced from $150 to $300, but that's what they sell for.  A cheap scope bumps it to $225 or so, nice scopes on up in price.  That's what I see here in NC at the gunshows and pawn shops.

The Handi that I bought last month was 250.00 used, a 223 heavy bbl.,  it had a bi-pod, bullet sleeve and a 3x9 world class tasco on it, no scatches and a nice bore.  The 243 syn. youth was used and it was 165.00 and like new with a scope base and it has iron sights.

Most new one here are running $259-299, with the more sought after ones- camo stocks, Trapper models etc going for just over $300, that is bare rifle, rail mounted, no scope, no sights, (Well, the trappers have both rail and sights) Even a used bare rifle under $200 is very rare, unless it has been badly mistreated. My friend with the FFL says his cost is running $220/240 for common models.

I just passed on a 270/223 combo. Both barrels were factory fitted and had old Weaver scopes mounted on them. They were asking $325.00 and I thought that was fair, but I had no spending money.... They've have had a 500 setting there for over a year priced @ $220.00 and it won't sell. The prices you stated are ridiculous.

Uncle Lee's it was.  If any of you guys are going through Greenville, KY you should stop by.  Don't blame me if you end up leaving with a handi or 3.  They had about 20ish in stock yesterday.  Ultras, camo, thumbholes, synth, youth.  Great selection.  Started at $229 for PW.  Mine was on a little sale.
