Stock painting
« on: February 05, 2012, 02:12:47 PM »
I have synthetic stock that I want to paint black, it has some kindof ugly factory camo job on it now. Is there a certain paint better for the job? Or is regular can of black spray paint sufficient?

What about selling or swapping for a blk stock?

What is the maker? (What does it fit?)

It's a Remington 700 7mag. I mistyped earlier, I don't believe the camo job is factory. I'm thinking a previous owner painted it but can't varify it. I'm the third owner and can't get a hold of the original owner. The gun shoots great and I don't like messing with to much when a gun shoots great. I figured a can of paint wouldn't cause me a big fuss.lol.

OK I agree,
Skuff it up and wipe it down with good solvent like acetone, then shoot it  with what ever color suits you!

There are a number of "plastic" paints available. I have had very good luck with Duplicolor truck bed coating. Its not overly rough, but has a texture to it and results in a pleasing feel. I have painted a couple dozen shot gun stocks used in cruisers thru the years and it holds up well and comes out looking like synthetic. Rustoleum also makes a number of "wrinkle" finishes. These too may provide good results.

A spray bed liner works well too. Duplicolor makes a good one.
