My son is 11 and we tried a t/c carbine for shooting. Problem was he could not open the action even using both hands. Yes, I'm sure you could change springs in various places to make it easier but I think you would have to change them back for switching to larger calibers. I bought the G2 in 22LR Match and he can easily open it with one hand. I would suggest that route, JMHO. MI-shooter

thanks for the reply,my son is 15 and been shooting the tc in 30-30 for a few years deer hunting,he did have some problems opening the action to begin with but dont now.i was thinking if the 22 barrels are very good he is already familar with the gun and wouldnt have to start over with a new one.

I have several in 22lr match and all without exception are capable of very good accuracy with the right ammo. The only problem encountered is with burrs at the crown. Once removed, if present, and you have quite an accurate combination.

I have a 16.25in 22lr barreled carbine non-match that shoots 1in to 1 1/2 in at 100 yards with an old Marlin 4X scope. Thats with Blazer and Remington Thunderbolts solids. I havent tried the good stuff yet. The only thing I dont like about it is that the darn thing out shoots my 3006 Encore rifle with a 3-9 scope, but im still working on it. (its new)  Your son should do well with it. Good Luck!!
