enfield (SMLE) no1 MKIII Scope question

lucked out and picked up 2 S&K mounts for my lee enfeilds. the no 4 was sporterized but someone did a good job, the no 1 has been bubbafied, want to put a scope on it as seat gun, any recomedations, put a old weaver 2-8 on the no 4

willy:  if you are referring to the 'no-gunsmithing' mounts where you put the back end into the rear sight base and the front end goes down by the stripper clip guide and it is supposed to be held in place by a double set screw bottoming out against the inside of the action, do yourself a favor and where those set screws bottomout, take a smaller drill bit and 'dimple' the spot where the screw bottoms out and screw it on down.  If you don't, vibration will loosen the screws and the scope mount will flop up and down on its front end.
 
As for the 2-8x scope:  I think that is more scope than the old 303 may be able to use effectively; maybe a 1.5 to 4.5, like a Bushnell Banner might be more effective.  jmtcw.
