Hello, DEACONLLB. The Hornet is one of the few cartridges that were introduced before any factory rifles were yet available for it. Whelen, Wotkins, and others used re-chambered rimfires in it's development..one a BSA 12/15..Wonder where that one is now? Remember, at this time..early 1930's, there were really only two standard .22 bore sizes: .223 for rimfire & .228 for the .22 Savage High Power. (the parent case for the Hornet, the Winchester .22-13-45 or .22WCF used a .226 bullet).
