I was on the H&R forum and there was a post on the SSi with 2 pages of replies.  One of the guys who posted had called Mossberg about the rumor the SSi was discontinued.  They wouldn't admit it was discontinued but told him it was " out of production " .   This must be why all of a sudden the SSi were going on clearance.  It a shame it's a nice gun but nobody wanted to pay $450 for it.   They wanted to much for the extra barrels to.  I think they were trying to make a cheaper Ruger #1 kinda like the model 500 is cheaper then a 870.  The problem is their real competition was the Handi.  If you want a SSi nows the time to do it check with Galyans or Dicks.  Also try Wal-Mart I heard you could still get barrels at a good price.

You might see if they can get you one from another store. Or  get the 243 and look for a 308 barrel.  You could probably sell the barrel 243 if you didn't want it.

I have one and it is a very nicely made gun, locks up very tight and the trigger is very good after I took it apart and smoothed it up. It shoots most everything into 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches, some groups have went bigger but I attributed that to the gravitational forces in the northern Hemisphere coupled with the harmonic vibrations of small earth quakes across the Pacific Ocean in Japan when the Easterly Trades are blowing here in Hawaii. I really like mine and the only draw back I can find is it is just a tad heavy for me for a single shot. I have heard several voice that opinion. I think I'll keep mine. Now if I could just find a 308 barrel to buy or trade my 06 barrel for, any ideas??

sorry to hear  that, I had no idea they were only accurate in the Northern hemisphere-but if you did happen to take one to NewZealand, would it work better if you fired it upside down?[ which presumably would compensate for being''down under'']
... and if so, could you drill and tap the floor plate to attach a scope, and if so where could I obtain mounts?[ I don't want to look like a fool asking for mounts for that configuration at my local gunshop]

Hey  fishin,

I think you might have it figured out. You can drill the bottom of the receiver but you would have to use a compact scope to clear the underside of the fore arm when you break it down and also extra high mounts and rings to clear the trigger guard other than that you should be good to go. From here I can get a hop down to Christ Church but I don't think I can take the Mossberg with me. I really like mine just wish I could find a 308 barrel, anybody out there want to trade barrels?

Hey Fishin

I called them and placed an order and they called back later in the day and left a message that they messed up taking the order because they can't ship firearms or barrels to the U.S. Well I knew they couldn't ship firearms but was surprised to find out about the barrels. So I guess I'm out of luck on the barrel. Thanks for the info anyway.
