Harrington and Richardson rifle

Anyone have an idea of what caliber a Harrington & Richardson top loader rifle with SN 11702 would be?

Is the SN the only writing on the gun? Measure the bore do a chamber cast and measure that. The only way to get a caliber designation with the SN I believe would be to contact H&R. What is a "top loader"? Kurt

Don't have the rifle in my hands.  Trying to find out for a friend who inherited it after a family death.  He did say the serial no. was the only thing on it.  Not sure I know how to contact H & R since bought out by Marlin.

H&R/Marlin are owned by Remington, have been for 4yrs now, I seriously doubt they'll have any info for you for that serial number, all of the serial numbers for their single shot firearms made since 1987 start with H, N, CA or CB, all earlier H&R (went out of business in 1986) single shot serial numbers made since 1940 have a prefix letter, if it has no letter prefix, it was made prior to 1940, see the year of mfr sticky above if it has a prefix letter you didn't provide. You're gonna have to post a pic more than likely, see how to post pics in one of the classified forum stickys.

H&R made no KNOWN rifles before WW2.  There first rifles were derivations of the Eugene Reising designs started in the early days of the war.  I'm intrigued by "top loading" - perhaps it is one of the "Trapdoor" replicas made in the late '60s thru the 70s and into the early 80s.  Some of the Model 71s were serialed in the own range with or without a letter prefix.  Others in that series had letter prefixes indicating commemorative models, etc.
Does the gun in reference look like this one?
