Brought home a new handi today

20" 7mm08 with camo stock. Put a Simmons Aetec 2.8-10x44 on it and she is ready to rock!

  Looking good, it ought to be a real shooter. I bought a 223 like yours but plain stock, I took the pod off because I wanted to check it without the forend pressure to check it out. Cheap world class tasco 3x9. Shot it today and shot 3 into about 1 1/2 @100 meters. 55gr horn. I haven't shot  much lately and was not steady, probably old age too.
  Will put the pod back on and check it again. I did put a o-ring on the fore end screw to float the bbl. trigger is a little heavy too.
  I hope yours is a good shooter I like the camo.

Nice looking rifle.  Patty and I both have the Handi 20 inch light 7-08s and both are shooters.  I hope yours is too.  Patty's got the Simmons on her stainless .270  Rem. 700 in silver and she loves the combination.

I'm not 100% sold on the bipod but will give it a try. The trigger on this one is not real bad, think it will get better after I shoot it some.  I will try to get out and shoot this weekend but the weather here in W Montana may have another plan. thanks for the comments

I normally use a bipod with a good rabbit ear rear rest with my Handi rifles for the initial testing of reloads. For this reason: because the Handi requires that you "break" the action to extract/eject and load another round, it is more challenging than other types of actions to get the rifle back the way it was the previous shot(s).  A bipod seems to make this easier. Once I get the load I want, I remove the bipod and sight in the normal way. Works for me.

That's a great idea! I am going to try that.

Just got back from doing a little shootin and have to say I like it!  I was shooting some 145gr gland slams and have to say this little 708 does have quite a kick to it. Was shooting at about 30 yrds or so just to get a feel for it. The wind is blowing here so have to get in the trees to get out of some of the wind. Is it the shorter barrel that makes it kick like this? I have a 22" H&R 708  that does not kick like this  :-\

The 20" light 7mm-08 barrel is about a pound lighter than the 22" barrel, when you reduce rifle weight, you increase recoil, it's just a matter of physics.   ;)

I didn't realize it was that much lighter.  Great rifle for long hikes in the hills though.
