CW,
I had the same urge a couple of months ago. I wanted a SS marlin 22 mag with sporter barrel and lamnate stock. My FFL guy looked high and low no luck. I went to a good gunshop and found a new Marlin XT22mag sporter barrel in blue with the plastic stock . Mounted a 4x12 bushnell with the marlin bases and weaver quad rings.I have about $350 in the rig. she is a shooter. good news it is a mayfield, kentucky gun and it shoots very well. It likes the hornady v max and Rem plastic tips. groups about 1 inch at 50yds off the sand bags. still testing different brands. i got a tip that the Fed 50 gr HP may shoot well also. I ordered a bunch of different  brands today.i tried the 45 g FTXs but have not finished testing. My goal is a 1.5 to 2 inch group at 100yds with this rifle.

Take home message is the new marlins shoot well also!

I also really like the 50G bullets!!  But this Marlin refuses to group them... Funny thing is, my std weight handi, WILL shoot the 50G VERY WELL.  ::)

The Hornady's shoot great in my Marlin hope they do in yours!!  Try those 30g +V CCI's in yours!

I think I want another 22Mag bolt gun....

Something subliminal about this thread.

Didn't have a 22 mag. Didn't need one; 22-250 for coyotes far off, 12 ga pump for in the woods, 10/22 or 20 ga for bunnies.
But something in this thread convinced me I needed one.
Hunted rabbits in a rolling field last year. By the time you get over the rise, you're busted.
But deer hunting in the same field from a climber, I could see what I had been missing.
Rabbits from 20-100 yards, but also bobcats and coyotes.

Being LH and wanting something I wouldn't mourn if I scratched, Savage 93GL was the only choice.

So, now I have it, with a Simmons 22 MAG 3-9x32AO on it.
Tried it with the Leu FX-1 4x28 from my 10/22, but while its great on the 10/22and looks good on tha Savage, just not a good match for this 22 mag.

Took it to the range for ammo try-outs. CCI 40 JSP's win.
Learning that the target turrets on the scope respond in a predictable fashion.
Weird thing; my other guns felt threatened and started shooting better.

Waiting on October.

On second thought!
That HS would not stand for High Standard would it??

Sorry, never noticed this until now.   You guessed right and it was already confirmed by CW.   High Standard made quite a few models for Sears and others.

The 31 is one of the unique offerings of the time with the "beavertail" forestock overlapping the action and a built in retractable sling.  Excellent rifles that will shot any ammo relaibly, even mixed up S, L and LR.

Nice rig CW, ought to serve you very well.

I like the clean lines of the classic pump rifle, the Browning designed pump mfg by taurus, so far has been the best performing gun right out the box. my left hand never leaves the wrist and follow up shots are amazeing esp with the .22mag rimfire.

FOR Right handed shooters one may try the Ruger Model 96/22mag, another wonderfull box mag rimfire magnum.

I'd say try a .22Hornet barrel on the Handi Rifle, You'd be amazed, its like a .22mag on steroids! the range is ok, the authority is a whole step up in performance and the rounds wont land in the neighbors cow pasture a quarter mile away, and when you discharge it half the township wont roll out their recliner to see whats up.

Then again a 218 bee or a .32-20 would be my fave coyote lever blasterat limited ranges.
mabe a Marlin model 62 levermatic in .30 carbine or .256 winchester magnum (necked down .357magnum)

Hello REX!

I can say I BEEN THERE DONE THAT ::) and your spot on with your comments!! (Sans the Taurus recomendations, too problem attic for my taste  :o )

I had a Marlin 62 in 256 Mag about 15 years back, I still have a beautiful old Winchester 43, chambered in 22 Hornet. My Pop has its twin in a 218 Bee. I also have a Handi in 22 Hornet. Your correct its a great shooter!!

I also had and sold off a Ruger 77 in hornet (44, 22H, 22LR & 50 cal) cause it would not shoot well enough for me. (That's the same for the entire line!!  22LR/22M/22Horn/44M and 50 muzzle loaders)  I also had a 96/44M (Never the 22 or 22M versions)for a short while, but the Marlin was SO MUCH nicer I sold the Ruger and kept the Marlin '94's

I still have Marlin 1894CL's in 32-20 and 25-20, (In a moment of stupidity sold off the CL in 218 BEE) a Savage 23b in 25-2 and a H&R stubbed barrel in 32-20, GREAT little rounds!!  ;) I use the Savage 23 quite a bit for coyotes too, its long barrel makes it a natural for peeps and I love shooting it! I have a nice 60G pill shooting along at near 2000 fps. It aughta turn lungs to jelly!

I WISH Remington had come out with a 22M version of there little BDL 22LR pump guns!!  I have also shot a Browning pump 22Mag a friend had it was a nice gun too. Marlin had a 22M auto for a while too. I would buy anyone of them on sight!

The "next"  ::) 22Mag will likely be a Henry Golden! (After my PMR comes in of coarse)

I just bought a Savage model 93 in 22Mag. It has the Accu-trigger, and I put a Leupold 4X12X40 scope on it. Heard a lot of goodthings about the Savage model 93, I also had a Savage 93 in 17 HMR and it was a tack driver.

My pop bought himself the Savage fancy pants 22LR last year... Cheapped out on the scope. BUT the thing shoots great!!! Its nearly as accurate as my 880SQ and thats saying something as this rifle is "uber" accurate as Pop calls it!! LOL

This is a 25 yard target I shot on a indoor range, with it over a good stabil sand bag rest. I set up with clean barrel for each different bullet AND fired five bullets in the bank BEFORE each group was shot.

I decided the Remington CYCLONE where best and went out and bought most of the retailers remaining stock of that lott number. I need to do this again for a couple guns. Mostly because there are so many great new rimfire makers avalible now than there was just 15 years ago when I did that target.
