Head Space Adjustment for the Apex Muzzle Loader.
Got this idea quite a while ago but just hadn't messed around with it.
First I got a pop can, drank it and then cut out a nice sheet of it and grabbed my paper hole punch and made a bunch of these discs. They fit perfectly into the breech plugs primer hole and so I then took a 3mm drill bit, installed a disc into the breech plug and carefully drilled the shim out center. Drill one shim out at a time. If you try to drill through 4 or 5, they tend to bend " from the drill pressure" the shims in half, weakening them.
I used a total of 4 shims for the head space adjustment and now have a .005" crush fit on the CCI 209 Mag primers which results in zero blow by.
Shims before being drilled, Used primers from sighting in.

Final shot of the day,

Black Smudges is actually print on the aluminum shim.

Since the Apex does not use the firing pin bushing that we see on the Accura V2, Optima,Wolf, I had to make something easy to get zero blow by with the CCI Primers. Very quick, easy and pretty much free. Plus you get a good drink outta the product before putting it to Shim use.
