Scope for a fireball
« on: February 12, 2012, 06:29:07 AM »
I just purchased a contender with a 10" 221 fireball barrel, it has a 2 power Leupold scope mounted on it. I can see this is going to be much easier to carry, very compact  compared to my 14" barrels. The Leupold seems very clear, but I  feel I need a little more magnification. I'm looking for opinions, tell me what works for you. This will be used for hunting, not just for shooting paper.    Thanks                     lnewby

This is a varmint gun, and about 150yds being the longest shot I'd take.     thanks

I'm a big fan of the 2X Leupold, but for your expressed purpose I agree that it is a little short on magnification.  My first choice would be a Burris vari power probably a 2-7X model on a 10" tubed 221.

There is certainly nothing wrong with a 2-7 Burris, but you may want to look at the Bushnell Trophy 2-6x. It's very usable to 200yds in good light and quite cost effective.

I really like my Leupold 2x on my TC's and 41R Redhawk ,but I like the 2x6 Trophy as well, have one on my 300 Savage TC, It will of course, be heavier and show all the little bobs and weaves us old guys do ;)
