Bolt action 7.62 x 39
« on: February 13, 2012, 06:49:38 AM »
I have been waiting for a 7.62 x 39 rifle in something like a savage axis or a mossberg 100 atr , stevens 200.   A low priced rifle that will shoot the low priced ammo in.  Am I the only one that would like a rifle in this cal.      YES I know their are rifles out there but most are in the 600 $ range,    checked on a .223 savage axis this morning  269.00 $$             FBC

I like the idea of it - or better, chamber the Savage in 7.62x54R! Still cheap ammo,  but it'll do a heck of a lot more more re-arranging when it arrives on target, a lot further out.

I'll be that Federal, Remington, Winchester & Hornady will be lobbying hard against such a rifle  ;)

You don't mention what you'd use it for.If low cost ammunition is the goal...Why not the Axis or one similair priced in .223 or .308 and investing in some reloading gear?I'wouldn't expect the greatest accuracy from the cheap x39 ammo.

Its not a bolt, but a H&R Handi rifle was offered in this caliber and should be found for around 2-250$

I had a Mini Mauser back 20 years ago.. sorry I sold it. It shot OK but I did not do anything to it OR hand load for it before I sold it...

If I was looking now, I would simply buy a CZ 527. Just save your sheckles a bit longer. Once you get buy the looks and see that baby shoot, You will be so glad you did. That rifle really shoots!!!

With the action made for a 51mm case in the short action, why not just get a 308 and down load it or use the 125 grain reduced recoil rounds?
The 308 does everything the 7.62 X39 does and a whole lot more.

Yes I would probably jump all over such a reasonably priced gun in such a caliber, if, and thats a big if, it came with a barrel that was of proper bore diameter instead of 308 like most US manufactured guns typically use.  Since there is a better chance of seeing the 3rd coming of Christ before that happens looks like I will have to keep saving up and eventually get a CZ rifle.

I just think a bolt gun would be great, done the sks thing and they are ok but I am just a bolt action guy.Tried  a rossi single shot and it wouldn't fire the cheap ammo all the time and have loaded .308 with 125 grain pro hunters and thats a great load too . I've got a ton of 154 grain soft points but havn't really done anything but punch paper with them.
oh well  madebe someday they will be a gun on the market that I will buy to shoot all that ammo in !!

At one time Ruger made the Mark II in both blue and SS in 7.62X39. I've got one of the blue ones. Wish I could have gotten one of the SS ones for shooting up some of the old corrosive ammo, though. It's a good shooter and much more accurate than the SKS. Bolt actions are easier for mounting scopes. A SS in 7.62X54R would be most welcome. My 2 cents.
