Encore Muzzle loader and roundballs
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:11:00 AM »
Can a regular encore muzzle loading barrel shoot round balls? Obviously these barrels are meant for sabots....
Now is it possible to have a custom barrel made in a round ball twist (1-66?) and shoot round balls only out of a encore? Could I get higher velocities with the encore over a side hammer percussion?

Higher velocities would likely blow out your patch and deform your RB making it way less accurate and leading.  Modern Sabot's are designed to take the increased "magnum" loads and perform better than wads in these conditions.  I have shot RB in my modern 1:24 and as long as you keep the powder charge down in the 60 to 80 gr. range, it's still pretty accurate.  I have a 1:48 that I use RB in with great success also.  ;)
