Sika Deer
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:42:45 AM »
I dont know of this is the place to put this But, I booked a wild Sika Deer hunt just outside of Cambridge Maryland. My Dad and I are going the 27, 28, 29 of December 2012. We are going with our bows. We can shoot a Buck and a Doe each. What kind of weather should we expect when we go down? How big of a buck should I look for, I know they are going to be small 50-70 LBS. Just in case I am done hunting early should I take my Fishing gear along?
                                                                                     Thanks, Ethan

Mind you I've never hunted Sika there or anywhere else but have read a fair bit about the hunting of them in Maryland. From what I've heard getting one with a gun is FAR from a given and with a bow, well good luck on that but I think you should be prepared to come home empty handed. I doubt you'll need to worry about the fishing pole for afterward.

Now you could go to Texas instead and on a three day hunt expect to get a buck and doe and perhaps have a little time left for fishing. But that's high fenced ranches not free range like in Maryland.

From what I've heard holding out for a bigger rack if you actually see one is likely to mean coming home empty handed. Good luck and be sure to tell us how it went afterward.

I picked this hunt for the challenge to it. The guy said flat out you may come home empty handed. I figured what the heck it will cost me $200 bucks to try something new. I guess we will see...
