Wheres the snow!!!
« on: February 15, 2012, 01:35:20 AM »
In all my years i NEVER remember a winter with less snow on the ground at this time of year. I think the lower peninsula usually gets more snow then weve seen up here this year. Middle of febuary and theres dirt showing on the snowmobile trails!!

Hey Lloyd, better get your "weather prayer" going as I will need "some" snow on the ground for my pig hunt next month! ha. Maybe you guys will get some late storms. Our winter is sure mild too, we are finally getting snow up high and the snowmobilers/skiers are happy. My wife is happy too as she hates snow on her lawn/flower beds. she can't garden but she putters around with it, keeps her sane ( thank God! ha) I love the snow/cold, so I will be praying for you Yoopers too! Come on snow!

The snow is not in Wisconsin. The snow we have is going fast. Temps in the 30's for the next 10 days. The lack of snow does make ice fishing easier, if I were to look on the bright side.

Since the 2 winters of the mid 90's I gotta say.............................I have a strong unappreciation for snow and cold.  I know it is nice for some things like hunting; and I can appreciate that.  But otherwise come on spring!

I agree to a point. Anymore i detest winter. I used to buy a new snowmobile every year to race and loved winters but age took that out of me and i dont care if i ever sit on another sled the rest of my life. thing is we do need snow. Without it the farmers really suffer in the summer months because of  no moisture in the soil. that drives up food prices which drives up the price of everything.

Also, no snow means deep frost, a problem for everybody in the northern states.

We have the same thing here in VT. Bare ground for most of winter & warmer temps. ( About time for the Al Gore ads on global warming  ;D  )

I'm glad I sold my snowmobile back a few years ago and bought another 4 wheeler. I have been riding them all winter. The snowmobile dealers around here are offering some awesume deals, $ 2000 off & no payments till next Feb. Another has $$$$ off & $$$ gas cards.

Someone told me that VT has lost over $50 millon in snowmobile revenue so far this year.

We had more snow in our Oct 30, 2011 snow storm than we did for the rest of this winter. CRAZY!!

And last year we had record breaking snow's all winter. I was sick off plowing by mid January. Had no place to push the snow. This year my plow trucks are getting a break & I can do more shooting, rabbit hunting, predator calling & reloading.

Been rough; only one dog sled race so far this year (Jan. 21-22; Atlanta, MI).  We had hopes for Alpena last week but no dice.  Still got my fingers crossed for Kalkaska in March...

;) Little snow in the west also..I can drive about anywhere coyote hunting except the high mt..s they HAVE been getting snow, so it looks like the run off will be normal...BUT we usually get most of our moisture between March and May as heavy spring snow...

I guess they had to cut the dog sled race in half up here due to lack of snow on some parts of the course.
