Hey Swift. I have an idea that you and I could probably get along pretty well from your description. I think some mislabel it as being "moderate". Goldwater said (paraphrase) that moderation in support of freedom was no virtue, and extremism in support of liberty was no vice. Democrat/Republican/ Libertarian are directions on the political spectrum, moderate is a descriptor of intensity. Even Jesus said be hot or cold, not lukewarm. Many people also mistakenly think that "understand" is a synonym for "support" or "agree".It is not. I can understand many positions, but I only support a few.It is like ordering a diet soda and a double order of cheese cake, it is about what you like, not somebody's idea of what you should like. In the end, both sides usually hate you. The great thing about that, it creates a target rich environment, shoot any direction and odds are that it is an enemy. 8) ;) :-*

Unfortunatly the Liberals have gained the ability to label everyone and what you think of as a moderate is not where they would put you on the political spectrum
Normal People think you have
Communist     Socialist        Moderate      Conservitive and Extreme right wing
In liberal terms
Comunist = Progressive
Socialist = moderate
Middle of the road is inbetween socialist and moderate
The left leaning moderates are conservitives
the righjt leaning Moderates = extreme right wing.

They look at everything left of the middle as normal and anything right as extreme.
Progressive   moderate  conservitive (true middle) Extreme right wing ------!

NW Hunter, I think you may have helped me alot with figuring out where I stand in politics with your post.  I have never thought about Libertarian before. I trully do believe in the American dream of being able to think and do what you want as long as you are not breaking the law or hurting other people in a financial, mental, or physical way.  Others disagreeing with your beliefs is not what I would consider hurting them.  I have no problem with a person going out and becoming rich- as long as you are not making people more poor by doing that.  I really do not think the goverment should be allowed to master our destiny- but instead to serve our rights and liberties.  I absolutely believe in pro choice.

I have always hated the whole "if it isnt done my way it's wrong" thought process.  I grew up in a house like that and I have grown to resint that mentality.  I have always thought there was more than one way to skin a cat.  I have always thought that this world would be incredibly boring if everyone thought and acted the same. Individuality makes things interesting.  I dont think anyone should be forced into any one form of thinking or behavior as long as that individual is a law abiding citizen with decent moral fiber.

It's all a hot mess...........

The answer to the question is simple.  Look at the rift between people who support Ron Paul, and people who support a Mainstream conservative candidate.

Even on our little site here a group of "conservatives" cannot get along.  If the common enemy of liberalism were to disappear then a schism would form among conservatives and form a new party.  Then we would be back to exactly what we had before.

There are people in this world and throughout history that think freely for themselves and those who are lazy and want people to do their thinking for them.  Even if you remove the non thinkers from the equation then a new seperation will occur amongst the free thinkers.  It's been that way since the beginning of time and will continue to be that way long after were all dead.  So the whole argument is rather silly.

Human nature is one of conflict.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

If the world were free of liberals , who would the right wing conservatives blame?
Neither "Team" is always right, or always wrong.  The only thing I can guarantee is that if you find a guy who always toes the party (regardless of party) line, you've found a guy who is too lazy to think for himself.
Very true.

For many years I was into 'team'thinking. As a conservative, a politically-aware Christian... I had a team. And I'll tell you... I spent a lot of time looking at the world through tinted glasses, because when you've got an ideology you identify with, it'll very often affect your ability to see clearly... but it'll leave you feeling comfortable in your ignorance.

Things look very different when you take of those ideological blinders. Wow, what a difference.

But to the thread topic: who would right-wing conservatives blame? Some other enemy de jour.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

yeah taxes went up but it was mainly to build up the military which dufus carter had torn down.
I think he was the last president who really cared about people.

Wait the top marginal tax rate went from 75% to 28% and sparked a huge expanse of the economy.
Regan was promised $3 cut for ever dollar of tax increase and went along with it.  the Democrats did not cut spending but increased it by $4 for every $1 of taxes.    Anf the top tax rate went to 32%.    as well as the congress cut out a bunch of deductions.  so taxes went up even more.

when congressmen stop spending on wasteful programs in an effort to get re-elected then spending can once more see control.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
