HAENEL Firearms
« on: February 17, 2012, 04:39:33 AM »
Anyone ever hear of HAENEL, Gmbh? It's a German (Suhl) company that produces single shot, doubles and combination guns. The single shot, SINGLE SHOT RIFLE JAEGER.9, is a dural framed gun, with a block, very closely resembling Blaser K-95, but lower priced. Saw one at the Krieghoff booth (along w/the super-neat Ubertus) at the PA Outdoor Sportsmens show last weekend. Is anyone familiar with this company and its products? If so, opinions please.

I once had a single action handgun that was made in Germany with Gmbh stamped on it.
Don't remember if that was the name on it or not.
Really wasn't much of a gun.
Cheap price and cheap quality.
Not saying the two guns are from the same company.
Just that mine had those letters on it and was from Germany.
Never found anyone that knew much about it.
May be related or not!

Hi Longtom, Gmbh is a German denomination for Corporation, like Inc. or LLC, are used here in the US. Haenel is the name of the Manufacturer. Nothing cheap about their single shot. Somewhere in the neighborhood of four grand. Just not quite as expensive as the Blaser K-95 (starting at almost five grand and going upwards), and the Krieghoff Ubertus (around seven plus grand). My question centered around anyone having experience with products of this manufacturer, and the quality.

Dalgo:
Thank you for the information.
I did not know what those leters stood for as that one gun was the only German one I ever owned.
From the prices you have stated it is very clear that my gun was not any of those.
I think mine cost me about $90.00 ANIB.
No disrespect was intended.

Thank you.

Hi, Longtom, I know no disrespect was intendended, and none taken as such. Just clarifying the meaning of the word. No need at all to apologize (I had to Google for the exact meaning of GmbH myself, lol). We are American here, and speak American (no slam intended to you Brits, Aussies, and NZers), and we are not expected to speak and understand non-American. With world monetary fluctuations being what they are, it's hard to determine what is a good value, what is good quality (and what a product's real worth is from country to country). Just never heard of the make, and just because it sports the price tag, doesn't mean the quality is there. Hence, price/value becomes very important. I have a Thompson Center Encore which I regard highly. The balance and the accuracy is excellent. The build quality is also excellent. It is so much cheaper than the European single shot guns. Visually (the finish), it doesn't appear to give up much to the Haenel. Neither does it for balance. So, I guess what I'm looking to find out is if anyone out there has ever had/used one of Haenel's firearms, if the quality is there, if the accuracy is there, and finally is it worth the money they are asking for their product. Cheers,

Dalgo.

Haenel is an old line company and their single shots were always very high quality but I've no knowledge of current products...sorry.

Hi. New to the forum. I have a sporterized Original Haenel-Lorenz single shot 98 Mauser originally chambered for 8.15x46R but rechambered for 30-40 Ackley Improved. Actually it's a 31-40AI because the original barrel was rechambered for the Ackley round and the groove diameter is .315. I resize .318 and .323 bullets to .315 sometimes but, to be honest, it shoots very well with .312 bullets designed for the .303 British, so I load and shoot a lot of Hornady Interlock 174gr RN with 50gr of H380 for deer, bear and elk. I inherited the rifle from my father who had P.O. Ackley do the rechambering back in the late 50s. It's my main hunting rifle.

Just remember that haenel was left in the East so was under Communist control and quality was not as good perhaps. They also made Air Rifles:-

Notice the "Made In GDR"

One I picked up fairly recently. .22 Springer from the 1970's probably.
