308 & IMR4227 ?

Does anyone have any load data on this combo.
 
I have about 2 pounds of 4227 and I was woundering if I could use it in a 308 ?

its listed in the Lyman 49th as suitable for use with light charges and cast bullets  nothing for jacketed in lyman or lee 2nd edition.
thats a magnum pistol powder, way too fast for jacketed bullets.
maybe someone has something in a reduced load with jacketed but i got nothin and hodgson doesnt list it online for a 308. better safe than sorry, save it for the pistols or cast shooting.

From an old DuPont handout, loads for a 308 Winchester using IMR4227 powder. Remington cases, Remington 9 1/2 primers
110gr bullet-32.0 grs IMR4227= 2835'ps pressure 51900

150gr bullet-26.0 grs IMR4227= 2260'ps pressure 51100
180gr bullet-27.0 grs ImR4227= 2110'ps pressure 52000


Pressure as stated is in CUPs.


Not blistering hot loads and I would imagine that recoil will be reduced significantly but it's good enough to hunt.

Not at home , so can't look at my manuals.....appears like Larry has put you on the right track with his info. 
 
I understand what your doing...I have a tendancy to try to consoladate my powder uses also , but sometimes ya have to break down and get the best powder for your need.   I've been using IMR 4895 for my .308s for years.  It may not be the best but I use it in several other rifle loadings.  It seems 4227 is more suited for the small cases. good luck

It works great in the 308 with cast bullets. 17-19gr. with a bullet from 150 to 180gr. will get you in the ballpark.

Looks like its not a realy good match with jacketed bullets.
