Sorry if this has already been brought up in another forum. There are too many forums for me to be able to keep up with on GBO here lately.
Hey! When was the last time that old adage was spoken about
"There's no such thing as a dumb question!"? I brought up the subject of bear pistols in one of the last threads I started, that some eastern nimrod got pzzed about!
I'd tell him where to go, 'cept the moderators don't like that kinda exchange
. Whatever you want to discuss or bring up, PLEASE do so! Besides sharing and exchanging ideas and experiences, its been my observation that GBO is also a
'learning place.' Someone doesn't like what another brings up,
tough! Chances are likely that someone else besides yourself also has similar questions or hasn't learned "everything" about the subject at hand.
That said ......
Not sure Ive seen much from that National Geogrphic show, but if i did, the show-episode I saw looked silly
and bit hokey!
What I mean by that is ..... is a couple things! A lot of 'reality T.V.' I think is about networks and producers looking for sensationism and ratings when they film "newbies" trying to learn how to do something
NEW and [ VERY IMPORTANT!] "things", that they haven't done before! For example, I saw the beginnings of a show where the father wanted everyone in his family to learn how to make gun powder and moonshine! Not sure of his rationale and 'methodology' and "thinking,"
but the left-wing media loves to portray folks not like them as idiots! Some [programs I like (and have learned a lot from) is "
Dual Survival," and also another survival program I like is the one where a husband and wife team work together.
Plus a couple years ago there was a show about various city slickers thrown together as 'squads' or teams in Alaska. Only saw a few episodes of that one,
but it promoted gun usage and ownership, and the one team that was making some headway was actually killing and collecting several small game to ffed themselves! I was sorry to see the series cancelled.
The program with Bear Grillis I think shows an enthusiastic guy
who FAILS ALOT!
Grillis doesn't impress me in the least!!
Whether another show or series (since 'Survivorman') has been done professionally to do more than just survive, I'm not aware!
Digressing ..... Several years ago there was a fellow named Mark Koernke who did some VHS films on some preparedness precautions to take, as well as how to equip and arm a family if not elements of a militia. I think his material is worth looking at, altho he's possibly still in prison. He was affiliated with one of the Michigan militias,
but wasn't a total crank. If you are lucky enough to find his stuff, consider it! I think anyone should look at many sources, including books! For preparedness stuff, Carla Emory's stuff is extensive and well explained (several book titles), in her "
Encyclopedia of Country Living." That book discusses many of the items the
Mormon Church might can direct you too (home canning is one example).
Hope I've helped a little!
