Ruger Rifle Accuracy?

I was at a gun show a couple weks ago and saw a stainless/synthetic Ruger in 30.06. It looked like a nice gun and was lightweight. The price was only $375. I have a ruger m7744 in stainless and have not been impressed with the accuracy. Does anyone have experience with other calibers in synthetic stainless and how do they shoot? Is anyone shooting a moa with their stainless ruger?

My .270 SS/synthetic Model 77 MK II is wonderfully accurate -- under MOA once I settle down. I use the Ruger rigns and a Leupie 6X on it. It holds zero too.

Out of the box it was closer to 2MOA with a bit of stringing. .

I free-floated the barrel, had a Timney trigger added, and played with the front screw until a sweet spot appeared. I did the first and last work myself. Total cost was about $80.00 extra.

I own a Ruger M77, stainless/syn in 30-06. I'm not that good of a shot, but, my neighbor has shot 100yd, 3 shot groups, under a half inch with cast wheel weight bullets. The gun is accurate. Wish I was.

I have a 77 MK II stainless/synthetic .243 and it was accurate out of the box with factory ammo. My son has a 77 MK II stainless/laminated .280 and it's accurate with factory ammo. The only thing that compares between a 77/44 and a 77 MK II is the 77 in the name.

I think the problem with the 77/44's is the same as the 77/22 Hornets.  The 2-piece bolt design and questionable barrel quality have been the recurring themes.  Seems most folks get disgusted with them and sell, have them accurized by a smith or convert to another caliber.  There are smiths that specialize in reworking the bolt and Calhoon makes a conversion kit to 19 Calhoon Hornet.  Similar fixes would probably help the 77/44.

I did some experimental reloading with my 44/77. I got better accuracy with heavier bullets in the 265-300gr range but these bullets would not fit in the clip. I don't think its a lost cause yet. I love its light weight and smooth action. I just wondered if the rifle cartridges in the stainless had a good reputation for accuracy. In the early 70's I had a M77 in 7mm mauser and had poor accuracy. I didn't know enough at the time on how to get better accuracy and I traded it off.

every rifle of course is different.  i think the ruger m77's are well built and just as accurate as any other make.   the rugers are also one of the easiest to do trigger jobs on.   i will bet that the rifle can shoot better than you (or I) can.

I have two stainless Ruger M77 Mark II's in CF and one M77/22:
1- .30-06 stainless/synthetic - bought several years, and deers ago.  :-)
2- .22-250 stainless/laminate- bought last year.
Both of these will shoot 1" or under groups, when I can hold still!   :lol:   Both of these are bone stock, no mods at all. It took a few rounds to get the .30-06 groups down but the .22-250 went real quick.
The M77/22 is a tack driver, has been ever since I got it. I got it in a trade a long time ago.

I have a M77 Mark II RFP in .243 in stainless. Before I bought it new, I knew i was probably going to have to invest a little more to get it where i wanted it as far as shooting sub-moa. Out of the box, I found the trigger too heavy for me but i loved the balance and feel of the rifle. I took it to a gunsmith who put a Timney trigger on it at 2.5lbs, lapped the lugs, and trued the crown. This cost me about $100. He did not want to do anything else until I tried it at the range.

I tried factory Winchester 55gr ballistic tips and shot about 1" groups but I was looking for much better results. I then tried Federal 70 gr Nosler BT and have shot a .186" group with it though I average from .350" to .400". I have not had anything else done to it since. Maybe I got lucky as others say Rugers do not have the reputation for the best in accuracy. I think it is a very well made firearm and mine will be passed on to my son.

I've got the Model 77VT MARK II HEAVY BARREL TARGET GREY(.25-06). I bought it lasy november for deer season,but i also bought this model and caliber for varmints as well. I bought this model because i knew i would not have to change anything on it,which was true. I broke in the barrel with J-B BOREBRIGHT or JB butter thats what everybody else calls it. This amazing rifle is alredy glass bedded and barrel floated,and places 100 gr. nosler ballistic tips in a 3 round group in which all the holes touch.later bull b 25-06

While I don't have any experience with synthetic-stocked Rugers, I do have experience with walnut/blue and laminate/stainless.

First my brother's walnut/blue heavy-barrel .22-250.  I don't know what kind of groups he gets, but prairie dogs best run.  He has taken them out to a measured 400 yards with factory ammo.

Now t the ones I am intimately familiar with -- Dave's (my my hunting buddy) and mine.

Of all of those guns, the only one that is less than Very Satisfactory is the .257 Roberts.  I'm sure handloads will help it, but I suspect a trigger job will help even more -- today was the first time I had had a chance to shoot it, and the trigger must be 8# !!!  It has an adjustable trigger (its a M77, not a M77 MKII) so I'll give that a try before doing anything else.

I have Ruger 77 stainless in .22-250, and .300 win mag, the .22-250 shots less than .5  and the .300 less than .75 as long as I do my part.
