Boggy,

The Pic is of Mister Mallard.  And as for me I only go after beaver if I don't have to drive to far this time of the year.  Beaver is a once in a while thing for me.  Coyotes and Fox are my main game.  But after your demo coming this June I may be chasing more beaver.  I just have to drive almost 100 miles to get into any beaver that I can trap.  I have two beaver ponds to trap but they are 300 miles one way to get too.  SO at $25 bucks it sure makes it hard to go that far.

Gol darn Dave, you've got it figured out. I still can't seem to shrink the pics to under 450KBs.....go figure. Thanks for showing me it can be done.
We were very supprised to see three of them bouncing around when we arrived at the spot. This particular location didn't give up anything for the first 6 checks, then all of a sudden they were there.

boy i  really envy you guys,

right now i've got about 4-5 feet of snow on the edge of the fields I trap, and about 2 ft. in the woods, which makes it kind of difficult to make a good set.  i've only had limited success setting up on trails and hangin snares.  i'm sure the sub artic temps we've been having contribute to the slow critter movement.  i just can't wait till it's about 50-60 deg. out and now snow.  sorry about the complaining, i'm just gettin anxious for next season.

MNtrapper,

Where these coyotes where taken I am sure has about 3 ft of snow with drift to the rear of your body.  It has been cold and it snowed for 5 days staight last week.  So since I know where Mallard lives I know for a fact the guy has been shoveling snow all last week.  Mallard did you get 3 ft of new snow last week?

Joe,
It’s an old Remington, and I don’t even know the model. It’s one of those guns that’s been passed around the family as a “clunker”, but when it comes down to it, all I need. It’s very accurate to me, and unless I’m showing Dan how to shoot a skunk without spray, can usually hit a dime within 20’ 10 out of 10 times.lol.
WQ,
That’s just the way I do it. I’m not into the hand to hand combat, and would just as soon shoot the coyotes with a .22 , as a matter of fact I shoot the fox and coon as well. I guess I’m a softy…. Lol. Actually it worked real well this year with me shooting, slinging the gun over my shoulder and quickly removing the trap while my partner swings the coyote out from the set. We were able to do this quickly enough that little blood was left at the set.
Dave,
Yes we did. Started with the Sunday of the MTA meeting, with 8" waiting for me when I got home, 14-17" on monday, and about 4" per day through Friday, for a total of about 38" new.

I should also point out that there were two of us running this canine line, so please don’t think I was running alone. We are both rookies in the canine trapping game. It was something we had wanted to do, but never really had made plans to do so until later on last summer. With me expecting a baby to show up sometime in Mid-November, we knew we had to commit to a couple weeks before hand, and we did. I can’t tell you how many hours were spent debating traps, lure, locations, and techniques, but by the time it was time to lay steel it was all business. Very much a team effort, and something we’ll continue for a long time to come!
