Golden eagles.
« on: February 20, 2012, 01:43:54 PM »
Saw some birds off and on the past few months that I could not identify, couldn't get a good look at them and had never heard the call before. Saw them today in bright sunshine with binocs and am happy to say that they are golden eagles. Looked em up in my bird book. They were flying just west of the house and calling to a 4th to my SE, that makes 4. We've been here 30 yrs and never seen them before, we are tickled to death. From what I read they do not necessarily stay or hunt around rivers and lakes like the bald eagles do,  so I'm hoping they will stay in the area and maybe nest close by. Little dogs beware. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

wow Powderman, I never knew they were that close.  I'm still impressed with the 32 nested pairs of Bald Eagles in my area.

PM, immature bald eagles can look like goldens, but with binocs and a book, they could very well be goldens.  we've got all of the western animals moving east.  hope the grizzlies stay out west..

I found one other person that reported goldens in Ky.  it was close to Lou.
if goldens are moving in, look out for the lambs, dogs and cats.

BUGEYE. I'm not real far from Lou. After checking the bird book I'm satisfied that what I saw were goldens.
KEITH. The past few years we've seen bald eagles around Corydon In on the river flowing through town. Residents say they are there often. I heard one yesterday the same direction I've heard them before but did not see any. I'll keep a closer eye on our 2 little wannabees. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D
