Swamp Rooter meets 358JDJ

This afternoon I was easing around some property getting ready to hide my truck and set up for a varmint and look what I found rooting up everything he could get his snoot on...He was about 150yds when I shot him the first time.  I actually thought I missed because he started to lay down right as I shot, thought I shot over him because he took off running angling back towards me.  He slowed and then stopped and despite dumping out all of my bullets on the seat of the truck trying to get reloaded he was dumb enough to stand there for a second too long.  Second shot was at about 115yds, DRT, hit him right behind the ear.  The first shot actually did hit him high in the shoulder and he would've died from it, but I believe it would have taken a bit.  I'm guessing 250-275 pounds on the hoof, maybe bigger.  I was shooting the 180gr SSPB but I know I need something stouter in the JDJ to shoot rooters. I was hoping for a coyote but a varmint is a varmint.

Where did you find someone to rechamber your Handi to the 358JDJ?  Nice hog, I'd love to find some place to hunt hogs one of these days.  On my bucket list. ;)   DP

I got ssk industries to do it for me...I know some have said that he won't work on handi stuff but he did mine!  I love it...can't wait to try it out on some whit-tails nxt season!

Nice job!
 Friend of mine has shot several elk with a 357 Herrett and the same bullet choice.Seems to work real well on them.
Good choice on the 358JDJ hope it works well for you

Hogs are getting to be a problem in some parts of Michigan, but not near me.  MDNRs goal is to eradicate them.  I'm hoping to pop a few before they do.  I'm training my .356/.358 to call "Here piggy piggy".  If anyone out there knows where I'd have a decent chance of finding them, please let me know.  Oh yeah, almost forgot......can't find any wolverines either ;D ::)

Why not?  The Indians ate dog and the Long Hunters who tried it said it was good.  I don't know anyone who's tried BBQed  yote.

Coyote meat....ugh!  Don't remember ever being that hungry in my 72 years, and many of those were spent growing up in rural Ark. poor as church mice.  Reminds me of a quote from Crocodile Dundee...."You could live on it but it tastes like s---!  (probably...don't know for sure)   ::) ;)

I think I read somewhere that some Indian tribes liked it!

May I have skinned where entirely palatable looking.  Some smelled so bad I had to plug my nose to finish the job!!! Others where almost perfumed!!

I would eat them if it was. needed to survive, but I would say that about most anything ;)

giddens1972: what barrel did you rechamber to get the 357jdj?  was it the 357 mag or the 35 rem?
