Here ia an 1841 pattern barrel I just finished in GB cal.

Nothing for scale , but it is 20" LOA and 4" dia. at the breech reinforce .

I now have a bigger lathe , 16 x 84 .

It is a real antique , converted from flat belt drive , but it cuts true . Look for longer barrels in the future . Armorer77

How much tooling did you get?

Almost none . Chuck wrench , tool holder , a few bits . A weeks worth of work to be up & running . Ed

Someone once posted on Practical Machinist that he could have had a 10 footer (or maybe it was a 12 footer) for the price of hauling it away. I said put it in a shipping container or build a lean-to alongside your garage. Find a way to have a place.

Although I guess I don't think in terms of apartment living.

I once gave a man who had done some gratis welding for me (before I learned how to weld (he actually taught me how to weld the next year, I think) and had my own welding machine) a couple of cases of beer and it turned out he was on the wagon and had to trade it off.
