Open carry is still legal in Alabama tho trying it in a city is likely to get you more hassle than you want to deal with. I have a copy of the Attorney General Opinion on open carry in my truck at all times. I also have a Concealed Carry Permit and carry at all times when I'm out.

I remember back in the 60s after I got my carry permit I often walked around in down town Anniston with a revolver on my hip and no one thought a thing about it. I'd bet doing that now would get me arrested if not shot before they took time to arrest me even tho doing so is still perfectly legal.

Just cuz ya can do something doesn't always mean ya should do it.

Reading that article just made me want some ribs and white bread.

I have a copy of the Alabama Attorney General's opinion to the Honorable Van C. Gholston District Attorney Second Judicial Circuit Butler County Courthouse where he had made an inquiry about it dated Mar 22 1984 that states that it's legal to open carry in Alabama, but there might be a few places that you can't,like courthouse, airport and places of business that don't allow it.

And I also have a copy of a 2 page pamphlet that folds so you can carry it in your pocket titled "The Law and Open Carry in Alabama". I don't remember where the site is that I found that pamphlet, but I'm sure you can find it on a Google search very easily. If you can find those two articles, it would be wise to print them off and save a copy to carry along with you.

Bill, your link didn't show up in the reply.

Lot of very good info Bill. Some of it is what I have printed for my use, but I notice that that last link has a lot more than what I had.

I tried to tell some local law enforcement about the law some years ago, and they hadn't a clue...

I still keep my concealed permit current....

I made a new folder on my computer titled, "Alabama Open Carry", then I went to the links that Graybeard posted, started opening up the pdf files on the links and saving them to my new "Alabama Open Carry" folder for future use. That way I can print some off whenever I want and keep some in my truck and maybe the tri-fold file in my pocket in case I want to open carry at some point in time. I also keep my concealed carry permit up to date so that I am protected when I have my pistol in the vehicle.  ;)
