Here are pictures of a ram rod/sponge, worm and a tampion I just finished for a customer that is involved in operating a 130' tall ship out of Long Beach, Ca. They have pirate battles and use a 3" bore Hern barrel. Note the wooden heads are secured with walnut pegs.
Keep me in mind if anyone needs things like this. As usual, offering only the highest quality.

You do beautiful work. Tell me about the walnut peg. Is the contrasting color wood just for estetics, or is there evdence of period rammer/sponge heads done that way?

The heads certainly were secured with pegs. I use walnut for the contrast.

I did a set with walnut heads and oak pegs just to hang on the wall.

I didn't make this worm just so you know. The powder shovel is made from brass pipe. I bought a portaband just for sawing the brass pipe. I did all the work on the swab but outsourced the sewing to a 7 year old in china. The sponge is done like WFG did.

A portaband is almost $300!

A very nice tool! I use mine all the time.
The shovel looks like copper, not brass.

Your right its copper. What was I thinking. Theres a hardware store in the next town over and he had some large copper pipe for very cheap. I bought all he had because he said after its gone he will not be getting anymore in 2". He also said if he had to get more he would charge twice as much. He had the stuff from back when it didn't cost an arm and a leg. The portaband does come in handy now that I got it.
