357 supermag penetration test

Lost a big boar at 50 yrds broad side with a Dan Wesson using 158 gr xtp his back legs kicked backout from under him he regained his footing, the last time i saw him he was doing at least 25mph.Lost another with a 300 gnr 125 gr sierra 10 yrds closer same result.Just did a test soaked 6in of phone bookes in water they swelled to about 11 first shot a 180 gr xtp 19 gr 296 at 20 yards it stopped about a half in. shy from passing through it expanded to.525 and only lost 10 grains of weight.Then i used a 170 gr sierra silhouette  F.M.J it passed through wish i had more books i really wanted to see just how far that one would have penetrated.

You should go for spine or head hits. You killed both hogs but you probably hit both a bit far back as the lungs don"t extend much past the shoulders or much higher than halfway up from the brisket.  If I go for a broadside chest hit I like to aim a couple inches above the "elbow" which will damage both the heart and lungs.  Generally a hog will run some with a chest hit anyway and if you hit them lower in the chest, get an exit hole you may actually have a blood trail. Otherwise you will have some tough trailing into some thick stuff.
