I have a portable benchrest set up in my den and a pellet trap 10 meters away in a storage room.  During the winter I enjoy shooting the pellet rifles indoors.

The only time I ever shot a gun indoors was when a coworker asked me to come over with my .22 and shoot his neighbors wellpoint, which was located in the basement.

   By accident..or on purpose ?
     By accident; once, in about 65 years of hunting & shooting..still too much !  Marlin 39..must not have fully cleared the tube, just coming into the door of the kitchen when it went off.  The only redeeming factor..I never point a gun at anything that can be killed...unless I intend to kill it...so I got a small hole in my ceiling tile.  Checked the roof..no holes, must have caught a joist.
       
         Intentionally..often..   I even spent some time shooting in/from my church.  A couple woodchucks were undermining the footers at the rear of the church.  These critters were very sly and wary..feasting upon the lush lawn, perhaps foraging no more than 50-75 feet from their holes.  Everything being open behind the church and being situated in a small hamlet, I didn't want to raise any ire among residents, so I positioned myself about 3-4 feet behind a raised, stained glass window and used subsonic hollowpoints.  Almost all sound contained inside the church..
  One caution..when firing out an open window, be very careful, because somebody can come by close up so quickly...they could actually "run into" a bullet.  My window was about 8.5 feet above the ground, so I was clear for a considerable distance.
    I fire in my barn often in that same small hamlet.  I have made a 45 degree, 1/4" steel backstop with sand catch.  When I get ready to shoot, I turn up my barn radio to some loud metallic "music" which I could not otherwise stand... and shoot away.
  I rarely use anything louder than .22 subsonics and I'm always doing "blacksmith things" in my barn anyway..along with neighbors who do similar things and for the most part..couldn't care less.  Works good for preliminary sighting in before going to my woods or the gravel pit to complete the task.

Did that once when i was a kid. In my neighbors house. When my father found out he took my guns away from me. What a downer. Missed pheasant season that year. I'll never make that mistake again.

 There was this girl whom I'd known since grade school staying at my folks house. One day I heard the shower running, so I opened the outside door and unloaded a 32 rnd mag of 9mm from a MAC 10 full auto. Instead of gtting scared and running out, she didn't even hear it.    oh well

I didn't know that barns counted. But since ironglow mentioned his,......I clear out the piegons in the barn every so often with one of my 38 specials and reloaded shotshells. Got a triple once before they all found their way out of the barn after I shot the first one. Just as good eating as chuckers or quail.

I used to llive on the wrong side of the tracks as they call it. Kind of ghettoish, for the suburbs anyway. They were tearing up the next street over and it was driving the sewer rats out into peoples houses and garages. The neighbor lady across the street woke to her 5 year old feeding her new "pet" chunks of hot dogs. It was a pretty good sized rat that was stuck in the garbage can in the kitchen.
We would put a plate of macaroni and cheese with peanut butter in the middle of the kitchen, turn the lights off and sit in the living room with a .22 revolver and shoot them as they came out to eat the bait. You could just make out their outlines in the dark and for some reason the lady was very concerned about her refrigerator.
We stopped after one crawled back in the wall and died there. Man did that stink.

Many years ago we had a squirrel take up residence in the attic. I told my wife-miss tree hugger-I'll get a rat trap and get it. She was horrified and hired a "humane" animal exterminator who would relocate it somewhere in the forrest. After setting up traps and $300 later the squirrel was still making a racket in the attic. It set off the traps but never got caught. One day my wife went out shopping and I went into the attic with my Ruger 10/22-bang-no more squirrel. Several days later she said she hadn't heard the squirrel. Told her it probably returned to the "forrest" and is probably happier there.

Ear plugs and less than magnum reloads help alot. Still, not the smartest thing I've ever done!
