Win 1895 in 30-40 krag
« on: February 25, 2012, 09:55:45 AM »
I have a functional 1895 30 U.S (30-40) full length (NOT A CARBINE). It shoots approx 1 foot high and 1 foot right at 100yds with the sight ramp at bottom. I thinking of putting a peep sight on it and would like more info on how they would work for this rifle and also how they install.

Thanks,
Daws.

The rifle was originally offered with a peep that mounted on top the bolt but special machining was required. the aftermarket sights screw to the left side of the receiver just in front of the rear of the receiver. The crossarm extends over the receiver and elevation and windage are adjustable, depending on model. There are also tang sights available that will mount on the top tang and two holes should already exist there for the base.. The existing sights can also be replaced to put the bullets where they are wished.. A taller front sight will lower the point of impact. How tall can be determined with the measurements and formula found at Brownells websight.. You will likely need a modestly priced dial calipher...
