:D Face to Face w/ a big Brownie in the the brush and a singleshot for protection doesn't sound real appealing no matter the caliber but I would think the most "wallop" you can can shoot well would be the way to go.
I love my Contender carbine but when deer season comes around again and the bears start hearing those dinner bell shots.... I'm thinking a BFR (or a well armed hunting partner) would contribute too peace of mind. At any rate, you'll be better armed than our forefathers

I guess I am a little confused between your poll and your question as the 7mm was never intended to be a big bear caliber and you dont mention it on your post.  I love my 7mm Sako, but it is not the caliber for what you are talking about.  Actually neither is the 300win.  I would start at .300 Weatherby and then go up from there.

My choise from your list would be the 450.  Largest cross sectional area and heavier bullet.  Reload the heaviest bullet you can handle.
