Shooting at Chardon Ohio high school..
« on: February 27, 2012, 03:10:18 AM »
News says the school is under lockdown right now..
For heaven's sake, don't those perps know it's against the law to take a gun to school ?  This shows the pure nonsense of "gun free" zones.
When they passed this law, did the lawmakers really believe a 'gun free' law would stop somebody who is bent upon mass murde,r from carrying a gun to school ?
If they believe that, I have a sunny beach with palm trees at Point Barrow, which I'd like to sell them !

This happened about a half hour from where I live. I look forward to all of the half truths and outright lies the local media will spin regarding gun ownership on this one.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

It is sad that kids do this. When I was growing up, we feared getting beat for doing something a lot less ignorant. My kids new if they did something this hidious, they better pray the law held on to them.

http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/27/10517706-official-1-dead-4-hurt-in-ohio-school-shooting

By NBC News, msnbc.com staff and news services  Updated 1:46 p.m. ET: CHARDON, Ohio - A teen gunman opened fire inside a high school cafeteria at the start of the classes on Monday, killing one student and wounding four others, police said.
The suspect was taken into custody near his car a half-mile from the suburban Cleveland school after a teacher chased him from the building, according to FBI officials. The suspect is a juvenile who was not immediately charged. His name was not released.
FBI agent Scott Wilson would not comment on a possible motive for the attack.
The injured students were rushed to area hospitals where a boy identified as Daniel Parmentor, 17, died at MetroHealth System in Cleveland. Parmentor, a high school junior, went to a nearby vocational school where he studied computer science, and was waiting in the cafeteria for a bus when the gunman opened fire.
"We are shocked by this senseless tragedy," said a statement from Parmentor's family, provided by MetroHealth. "Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
The Ohio shooting is the worst at a U.S. high school in 11 months and the worst in Ohio since late 2007, according to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
Suspect in custody following Ohio school shooting
‘In shock’
Panicked students screamed and ran through the halls when gunfire broke out around 7:30 a.m. at the 1,100-student Chardon school, about an hour’s drive east of downtown Cleveland.
Freshman Danny Komertz, 15, said he saw one student who authorities say was killed trying to get under a table to protect himself and shield his face.Video from WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio, shows the suspect in the Chardon High School shooting being taken into custody. Komertz described the shooter as an outcast who had apparently been bullied.
Komertz says that there were at least 100 students in the cafeteria at the time and that most fled immediately as shots were fired.
None of the wounded students or the teacher who chased down the suspect has been identified.
Three of the male students shot were believed to be from Auburn Career Academy, a vocational school with 700 juniors and seniors, taken from 11 surrounding school districts including Chardon High School, Superintendent Maggie Lynch said.  Two of the boys were 17, and a third was 16, she said.
Nate Mueller, a student who said he was sitting in the cafeteria at a table with three of the victims, told WKYC.com that his ear was grazed by one of the bullets as he turned away from the gunman.
“He didn’t say anything the entire time. He took one shot, and then that’s when we looked to see what was happening because it sounded like a firecracker almost, and at that point I looked back, I saw him shoot -- which hit one of my other friends that was sitting at the table with us. And then, as I was turning around ... that’s when he hit me.”
Mueller said the shooting didn't seem real. "It all feels like a movie. ... I am sure tomorrow I’ll be devastated."
The gunman, who used a revolver, had been a friend of Mueller's until the end of junior high school. Mueller said at that point the gunman had entered a "gothic" phase.
“He still had friends. He was still a nice kid … we didn’t think he would hurt anybody,” he said.
“He was not like a jock, a popular kid," student Evan Erasmus told Channel 5. “He has friends, but he would be considered the outcast type."
Erasmus told Channel 5 that a student tweeted he was going to bring a gun to school but no one took him seriously. Other reports said it was a text.
Jonathan Sylak, a senior at the high school, said he never saw a text or tweet but had heard about it.A student at Chardon High School in Ohio, who was grazed by a bullet when a fellow student opened fire in the school cafeteria, tells WKYC-TV he used to be friends with the shooter until he got into a "gothic phase." “It is a nice, safe community, and from what we have observed, very little crime... But you never know what is going on in other people’s minds,” Sylak told MSNBC TV.
"I am still in shock,” Sylak said.
Asked about the connection of the alleged shooter and the victims, Sylak said, “I don’t think it was random.”
“They were definitely targeted, I think,” he said.
‘Distraught’
Heather Ziska, 17, said she was in the cafeteria when she heard popping noises in the hall. She said she recognized the male student as he came into the cafeteria and started shooting.
She said she and several others immediately ran outside, while other friends ran into a middle school and others locked themselves in a teachers' lounge.
"Everybody just started running," said 17-year-old Megan Hennessy, who was in class when she heard loud noises. "Everyone was running and screaming down the hallway."
Three victims were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center and two to Hillcrest Hospital, according to the News-Herald.
"I'm just distraught," Victoria, a Chardon student, told Fox 8. She said the cafeteria wasn't crowded at the time of the shooting, adding that she knew the shooter, who is a junior.  Victoria said she saw him shoot another student in the back before she and a friend fled the area.
Schools in the area were locked down.
The school system in Chardon has received an excellent rating from the Ohio Department of Education for 10 consecutive years and draws students from a number of surrounding communities.
The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

News tonight said at least some of those shot had been bullying the kid who shot them. Some tell the school officials or parents, some take their own lives, some fight back and sometimes rather violently.

Until school officials begin to take some responsibilty for what goes on in their schools kids will continue to kill themselves or someone else over bullying.

Yep, blame the teachers and the schools. It's always their fault. I heard students were made aware of his plans , but didn't take it seriously. No one reported it. However-Most schools have anti- bullying programs. Schools can't do much if the schools aren't notified by the student or parents. Bullied students often don't report it out of fear of retaliation. They are already being bullied for no reason. Imagine their fear if the bullies were given a reason to bully. How many of us keep quiet out of fear?

Chardon High School Shooting: Second Student Dies as Alleged Gunman Is IdentifiedBy CHRISTINA NG and BARBARA LOWE | Good Morning America – 23 hours ago

A second victim of the teenage student who allegedly opened fire at Chardon High School in Ohio has died.
Russell King, Jr., 17, was pronounced brain dead at 12:42 a.m. at Ohio's MetroHealth Medical Center, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
The alleged shooter who killed two and wounding three others has been identified as T.J. Lane, according to a fellow student who witnessed the incident and ABC News' Cleveland affiliate WEWS.
The attack left "friends laying all over the place" in puddles of blood, one student told ABC News.
Nate Mueller, a junior at the school, was having breakfast with three friends when he heard a loud pop like a firecracker about 7:45 a.m., he told ABC News.
A friend yelled, "Duck" and Mueller told ABC News he turned to see fellow student Lane standing by his table. Mueller said Lane took a second shot and saw a friend get hit.
"He was over the table in a pool of blood," Mueller said, and another pal "was on the floor in a puddle of blood next to him."
A third friend "had not been hit yet as I jumped over him," Mueller said.
Mueller got on the floor and was trying to crawl away when a shot rang out and he felt a bullet graze his ear. He was not badly injured, he said, with just a small red mark left on his ear.
"It was terror. Everything had just gone tunnel vision, like, I need to get out of here," Mueller said. "You see glances of your friends laying all over the place. There's blood, there's people screaming, everybody's just running in different directions and you're just trying to get out. That's all you can do, get out of the school and not look back even though your friends are back there."
Two students were taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Hospital and three were taken by helicopter to MetroHealth Hospital, according to WEWS.
A student identified by MetroHealth Hospital as Daniel Parmertor died from the wounds  Monday. His family released the following statement through the hospital:
"We are shocked by this senseless tragedy. Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him. The family is torn by this loss. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
Another students at MetroHealth Hospital is in critical condition, according to police.
Police have not officially identified Lane as the gunman, saying only that the shooter has not yet been charged and that he is a juvenile.
Mueller described Lane as "a quiet kid. Freshman year he got into a 'goth' phase and didn't talk to that many people anymore.  He never egged anybody on.  He just went about his business."
But Lane's family life had been disrupted by divorce and violence, WEWS reported. His parents divorced in 2002, and his father later served time in jail on assault and other charges, according to the station.
Classmates described Lane as a outcast who'd been bullied. In late December he posted a poem on his Facebook page that read: "He longed for only one thing, the world to bow at his feet," and ended ominously: "Die, all of you."
Lane allegedly opened fire with a handgun just before 8 a.m. in the school cafeteria where students were eating breakfast, authorities and witnesses said.
The shooter was chased out of the building by a teacher and later turned himself in to a passerby, authorities said.
The suspect is in custody at Geauga County Safety Center, according to WEWS.
"Our prayers go out to the five victims and their families," a choked up School Superintendent Joseph Bergant said at news conference. "It's a horrible tragedy."
In the wake of the shooting, perhaps in a sign of solidarity, many of Lane's classmates -- including many in the "friends" column on Lane's Facebook page -- had the Chardon High School "Hilltoppers" logo as their Facebook profile pictures.
Geauga County Sheriff Daniel McClelland praised the reaction to the shooting.
"A prompt entry was made into the school. They went into the school and located the victims. It became readily apparent that the shooter had fled already," McClelland said. "The individual was apprehended some distance from the school and had fled on foot."
The officer said police created a security perimeter to make sure the gunman could not return and a search, including a K-9 unit, was launched for the suspect.
Ohio High School Student Arrested in School Shooting  Parent Teresa Hunt told WEWS that she was texting with her daughter during the lockdown and her daughter said she heard five shots fired in the cafeteria about 7:30 a.m. Her daughter texted that students were scared and that four people had been shot.
Chardon student Evan Erasmus told WEWS that a student had tweeted that he was going to bring a gun to school, but that no one took him seriously.
The Chardon Fire Department was called to the school at about 7:45 a.m. in response to a report of "several people shot," according to Inspector William Crowley of the Chardon Fire Department.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including a SWAT team, rushed to the school.
The superintendent immediately canceled classes at all schools in the district. Students who  were still on school buses were being dropped back off at their homes and parents were called to pick up their children that were already at school.
The Chardon School District sent a voicemail to parents that schools are closed and high school students are being moved to the middle school, according to WEWS.
 Parents received the following message:
"As of 9:00 AM the alleged sole CHS gunman is in custody and Chardon High School students are being moved by safety forces to Maple Elementary. Parents or legal guardians can pick up their students up any time. Chardon Middle School students are also being released to parents."
Ohio Gov. John Kasich tweeted around 9:30 a.m., "Pls pray for wounded Chardon HS students, their families, and their community; appears things under control now."
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has eight agents on their way to the scene and they are expected to trace the firearm.
Chardon is a village in Geauga County, about 35 miles east of Cleveland.

=======================================================
It takes EIGHT agent to run a trace?!?!?!?!

I saw part of his comments on the news. He commented that LE only entered the school AFTER the perp was chased out by a teacher. First, did they not learn a thing from the Columbine shooting? What is up with not entering the building to STOP the shooting. Second, I want to hear more about that (according to some here, what is probably a liberal scum union member, tax sucker,  ineffective) teacher. Sounds like the teacher was the only one with a pair.

That never came to mind. As I said earlier- it's tragic for all involved. The teacher should get some type of positive recognition for what he did; as should  the students who helped other students.

6pm news just reported He used a .22 pistol. Also said it was NOT a case of bullying. Said he is sick. Yeah I think that is probably true.

They also said FBI searched multiple family homes and found 10 firearms.  If 10 firearms is an issue then I think there are a bunch of people in southern Indiana with issues! Why did they search multiple family homes?

      LON;
Searching 'multiple family homes is rather thought provoking, but as the old saying goes.."you ain't seen nothing yet" !

When the so-called "Patriot act" was launched, we heard a lot of complaints...and rightly so, even though many of us figure the govt would be wasting their time listening to our private phone conversations.  Fox and all the alphabet networks did their job, alerting us to the encroachment.
Now; B Hussein signs an outlandish measure, one which allows the govt to detain citizens indefinitely, without counsel, without informing their next of kin or any of the usual constituional safeguards.  Fox News told us about it:
   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW-e7z7S6VI

Have the other networks done as much ?  No matter; my concern is ..Why haven't we heard outrage over this obnoxious abridgement and destruction of our constitution.
   Only question concerning this executive power grab and usurpation, and the mute acquiesence by both major parties is;
Does B Hussein in this act, appear more like  Stalin, Pinochet, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler or Castro ?

Again...I fail to see the politics in this tragedy. Not a political issue it is the issue of some sick head case that decided he should be judge jury and executioner because he was "bullied" or some other boy stole his girlfriend or someone sold him fake drugs or insert your favorite excuse that the various media outlets are circulating. When and if local and federal law enforcement start abusing power then maybe there will be politics to talk about but for now its just about some cold blooded killer who cowardly shot unarmed victims.

Too bad a school is a "safe zone" because if a teacher had a CCW maybe this whack job would only have gotten off a shot or two before someone else put a permanent stop to it.

It is indeed a tragedy..not just a tragedy, but outright murder.  Surely our hearts go out to all who have had any loss involving this horrifying event.
I didn't confine the thread to a non-political venue, in fact the opening statement was one which agreed with Lakota's last post....many of these school/workplace shootings could be prevented or at least degraded, had a responsible somebody been carrying .
