Swapped Weaver Mounts for Redfield
« on: February 27, 2012, 09:31:38 AM »
Just finished swapping the Weaver base and rings on My Marlin 1894 44 mag over to a (new) steel Redfield base and rings.
Since the scope on the rifle is an original "steel tubed" Weaver 1.5X, (which I bought new nearly 4 decades ago), I have long wanted to make the entire sighting system blued steel.
Nothing wrong with alloy Weaver style bases and rings, it's that I simply favor steel scope mounting hardware whenever possible.

I made sure to use a bore collimator  before disassembling the old mounting system, to verify the parameters of the scope's settings.
About the only disappointment I've found when using the Redfield mount, was the need to remove the Marlin's rear sight.
I'll pick up a blued, dovetailed slot blank next time I order a few gun parts.

Cost for the upgrade ran about $35 for the base and rings, including shipping charges.
Will need range fire the rifle to verify the scope is set to the same parameters as before the change-over.
