Did a little research and it looks like both sides do it on a regular basis. John McCain's average is 10% since 1983. Pretty bad awol record.Another comparison is Democrat Durbin of Ill 2% Repub. Kirk of Ill 4%.


In the long run the democrats may hold the record, but it's obvious both sides are guilty.

I did a quick search yesterday after I posted this to see if I could find an example of Republicans running for the hills en masse without result.  Yes there may be an isolated (McCain) incident but one does not a (en masse) make. 

And darn right, if Republicans were exhibiting this cowardly behavior I'd be for firing everyone of them.

This is about politicians having a sworn duty that they are being paid to do laying down on the job.  They aren't being paid to sneak off and hide in a motel while they make their pissy point.  They should get in there, blood and gut style, argue their beliefs, stand their ground.  If they lose at least they'd do so doing their job, doing what they're being paid to do, representing their constituents.

I looked up two representatives voting records.
David Scott from my district (democrat) from sept.21 thru feb. 17, voted on every thing that came up.
Ron Paul (republican) during the same time frame failed to vote 23 times out of 39 opportunities. that's a 59% failure rate.
even though Scott voted every time, I disagreed with him nearly 100% of the time.

The news was about the socialistdemolibs leaving their responsibility en-mass.

Individual congress critters not being at their jobs is a whole 'nuther matter.

An individual may be absent for many reasons...illness, emergancy, and yes...even in protest. But the entire party leaving and hiding is simply a form of blackmail and an attempt to circumvent the wishes of the people.

I sent the following to the Des Moines Register as a Letter to the Editor. I doubt very much that it will see publication, but I tried at least!

I see that the Democratic party in Iowa is showing the same moral cowardice that it has been showing elsewhere around the nation.

Walking out and hiding when there is a tough issue to face is NOT the method that should be used by people who were elected to do a job.

Stand up and do the job you were elected to do! If you lose, you lose. But don't run and hide!

It's quite possible that the quorum rule is the reason for the Dumycrats running off.  It is a way to stop any action that they haven't the votes to stop. 
 
I'm not going to be so quick to condemn their behavior, because it might be a useful tactic that Republicans could employ someday to stop some of the outrageous crap that Dumycrats are constantly trying to pass.  I know a lot of this stuff only works when Dems do it, but still it seems to me that they have given license to others.
