Author Topic: Sometimes I get so tired of being a lawyer... (Read 1357 times)

Especially nowadays when my main job is to try to make litigators out of new attorneys.

I call them my "baby lawyers" 'cause they remind me of baby birds sitting on a fence post waiting for daddy to come along and drop a worm in their mouths.

It hasn't occurred to them that attorneys are scholars by definition and they must, on their own, work HARD to acquire knowledge! $:-\$

But it falls to me to try to move them from law student to lawyer... and what I have to put up with!

Being with them at least 8 hours a day and all that time being the center of their universe. Their mentor, confidant, confessor... a shoulder to cry on for personal problems... why I even have to talk to them about their um, intimate relationships with boys...

It's no wonder they come to idolise me... $:-\$

Thank heaven I only have them a few months! I just got rid of this one!

It occurs to me that Reese Witherspoon already suited up this profession in her "Legally Blonde" 1 and 2 movies. I used to have an old hound dog that loved to chase cars. If ya wanted him to quit chasin all you had to do was stop and act like you wus gonna show him a little attention. He'd circle around kinda lost for a while then go back under the porch where he came from. Course most of them cars never even noticed he wus there.

Something I've noticed about seasoned attorneys is their acquired ability to leave you wondering if they were expressing legitimate sympathy for you, merely patronizing you, or rubbing your nose in it. It's not a skill I find particularly appealing or worthy of respect.
