Good article, but I don't know about this part of it. " and the barrels are interchangeable on nearly all of them"

I liked the article, and was surprised that posting it here caused more butthurt than when it was posted on OSA. Strange.

He needs to do a little research before printing, doesn't he! $:-\$ He also missed the mark on NEF making the Hand-rifle, H&R hasn't made an NEF branded Handi-rifle for years, they quit using the name in 2007-2008.

Maybe the OP being a friend of the author had relevence to why no one was critical of the article.

The point being made is perhaps the single shot makes a better marksman. I started out at 11 shooting at the local Junior Rifle Club....single shot. I was a good shot. Got older and into repeaters, and lost a lot of it. Now, with my Handis and despite impaired vision and senior citizen status, I'm getting it back..one shot at a time.

I agree with the statement single shots make better marksman. My dad hunted with a 30/06 Ruger #1 most of his older hunting days. Before that, he had a bolt action .270. He would only put 3 rounds in it, saying if I can't kill a deer with 3 shots, the deer should live. He was an excellent marksman. I was at the range the other day and 2 young adults were ther with a black rifle. They each fired a volley of rounds at a 100 yd target. None of the rounds hit the oversize target.

"spray and pray" mentality brought on by hollywood and video games.

These same people want to make snide comments about even bolt actions (and single shots) but never try to understand accuracy, trigger management, follow through, or maintaining a sight picture.

Sad really I pity those guys. Spending so much money on ammo to do what real shooters accomplish with one well placed shot

I have too agree with Keith44, one shot one kill. Now in Viet-Nam I used an M-14 with 20 and 30 rd mags and DID NOT spray and pray. My CO used me as a sniper (really, today it would be a designated marksman), and I could clean up a passel of enemy. but this was a tank unit and I was held in the rear until we had a good concentration of troops in the open. having used single shot rifles most of my life made a BIG difference in my "sniping" much to the enemies' consternation. Better marksmanship makes for deader enemies, also more meat in the skillet!! God Bless to all.

Its been interesting reading over the comments. I simply never gave anything other than a single shot a chance to become "friends", as it were. That said, I would surly love to develope a relationship with a black riffle.....yes sir, I would.

I mess with my grandkids by handing them one of my M4's with ONE round in the chamber, and an empty magazine. You oughta see some of the gyrations they go through trying to make it go bang again.......eventually, they remember that Grampa taught them how to clear and recover from a weapon malfunction, AND, trigger control and economy. I think they're somehow disappointed that it only took one shot to accomplish the task and still have 29 rounds left in the magazine, have to safe it and look for the next target.
Better to hit 30 targets once, than dump a 30 rounder and not touch one.

Keith44: Sorry my friend. we didn't cook em (unless you count Napalm

) due to the fact of too small and scrawny, carried disease and there wasn't enough meat on them.

But we did use their rice. sort of yummy.

most times deer hunting only used one shot but running jack rabbits are a hoot with auto loader no shot guns that's cheating cotton tails ok i have a lot of handys's there nice. and i didn't think i would own an AR 15 i have two now an one sks i bought new for $65 .00 i really would like to shoot about any thing. its fun to see you guys figure out witch ones are best every body is different thats cool.

When they dump a 30 round magazine and don't touch a target, they have spent the money without accomplishing what one well placed shot does.
.....but when it comes down to doing business a marksman can be well served by a 30 rd magazine.
