Pedersoli Double Barrel 12 Ga:
« on: January 24, 2004, 04:19:31 PM »
I just picked up one today at a show and it looks fantastic. I have a few questions as this is the first BP scattergun that I've owned.  Where do I find something to measure shot charges?  Can I use the same kinds of wads with shot cups that are used in loading cartridges?  This is one that does NOT have screw in chokes and I cannot tell from any markings what choke these barrels are.  Does anyone know what might have come standard with these? I would appreciate any and all information that anyone can provice. Thanks.
It it hurts when you do that then don't do that.

Momsworry,
Congrats on yer new scatter gun.  I have a Pedersoli 10 guage that doesn't have screw ins and it is choked Mod/IC.  You can probably e-mail Pedersoli and get the correct choke using your serial number.  Just type "Pedersoli" in your search engine.  I e-mailed them about shooting round ball and received a nice reply from the company listing what can be shot.

Many people use a shotgun shell cut down to measure their powder and shot.  I use 80 grains ff Goez in my 10 guage.  You then use the same measure to measure your shot charge as equal volume shot and powder works best.

You can also shoot buck and ball - and buckshot from your shotgun.

I use the over powder card and pre-lubed wads that you can get from Cabella's.  I found that one half of a wad works best in my shotgun but if you pattern your shots, getting the wads and cards correct is the hardest part of getting things right. I just use half of a over powder card as an over shot card and it works fine.

I have a lot of fun shooting my 10 guage and I would never give it up for a cartridge gun except for duck hunting.  May you have the same success with yours.

Experiment with your loads shooting at paper to view the spread of shot.  On most bp shotguns, I've found that full power loads don't work well, open spots in the pattern.  I can't remember the exact loads used, but med to lower loads worked the best.  Try it out to see what works for yours.  You may also find that you need to protect your left wrist(If you shoot right handed) from escaping gas from the left nipple.  A lot of the older guns were just modified chokes in both barrels.  You wouldn't want to have screw in chokes on a muzzleloader, my opinion, it would be a hassle to screw them in and out just to load.
