SWFA Sample List
« on: January 24, 2004, 04:34:52 PM »
I was looking recently for a 3x12 Burris Hangun scope to put on my Super 14 Contender in .223 Rem.  I did not want to go the full price for a new one, cause I figure it will be of limited use after I test various loads to see which is most accurate.  Had a friendly dealer lookin for me, checked e-bay etc. and no results for a used 3x12 burris handgun scope.

Then I went to SWFA, one of Graybeard's sponsors, and low and behold, on their "Sample List" I found 2 Burris 3x12 handgun scopes, one was sold, and the other became mine.  It was listed for 229.95 plus shipping,
It has scope ring lines barely discernable on it, as advertised, but comes with the Burris "Forever Warranty"..  Ordered Monday - Delivered in NY Friday... Can't beat that..  (When ordering I told the clerk Twice that I learned of SWFA on GRAYBEARD.)

The scope was mounted today, and weather permitting I hope to get to the range tomorrow.

For anyone looking for quality optics at a reduced price, keep an eye on SWFA Sample List.

Tried the Burris 3x12

Well, I got less than I expected.  The .223 Super 14 would generally hold less than 1" @ 100 yds. with the TC 2.5x7 scope, set in Leupold base & rings.  I took off the TC and replaced it with the Burris 3x12 and here are the 100 yd. results:
Groups 1           Rem. 55gr FMJ                       2.06"
Group 2             Rem. 55gr FMJ                      3.55"
Group 3  Winchester 45Gr. Varminter HP         0.28"
Group 4     Same Ammo.                               2.00"
Group 5     Same Ammo.                               2.66"

I rechecked the screws on the rings and they are tight....
Any suggestions what might have caused this deterioration in group?

The Winchester 45GR varminter is what was giving me the less than 1" groups before I changed scopes.  The 0.28" group is what I was hoping for.

The only culprit that I see in this equation is the Burris 3x12 scope.. :(
Has anyone had difficulties with their Burris 3x12?  Maybe I should have sprung for the extra bucks to get a new scope.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance,  Rol

I'd call and discuss it with Chris at SWFA. Only option might be to return to Burris tho. Not sure what SWFA policy is on that. Most expect you to deal directly with the manufacturer when problems arise. Some don't. Just don't know what SWFA policy on this is.

As to the scope in general I had no problem with the one I had. Used it a long time and got some mighty fine groups with it. Finally sold it off tho as I just really didn't use it that much.
