Questions on a new glock purchase
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:34:46 AM »
Hello everyone. I have been researching a lot and have decided im going to be purchasing a .40 glock. It was toss up between the 9mm and .40 at first but I have decided on the .40 because I dont believe the cost of ammo between the two are that great. If I ever decide I want to shoot 9mm i will purchase the LW conversion kit which I might do in the future anyways.

This gun is primarily going to be a target/range gun with home defense in mind also. Right now I do not have a CC permit but the are very easy to obtain in north dakota so I'm kind of leaning towards it as a CC weapon also.

My main question is would you choose the G22 or G23 and why? What are the major differences between the two. I was at the local gun store today and both handled fine in my hands and the line of sight was very natural on both for me also. I know i would be losing two rounds and a 1/2in on the barrel between the two but with that really even effect the accuracy? Also will the recoil be that less manageable between the two models?

I have never carry concealed before so I'm wonder would a pistol still of that size even be comfortable to carry all day long specially if sitting or driving a vehicle? or am i better off just purchasing the full sized and even looking at a more compact weapon further down the road? Just want to make the right choice. thanks for any input.

Between the 22 and 23 mdls I find the 23 easier to conceal and it gives up little, if any advantage to the mdl 22, other than capacity. Actually any double stack gun is too bulky for me to carry concealed for 10 months out of the year in my AO. I think you'd be happier with two guns, one for carry, and the other for a range/home defense gun. There are lots of good choices out there for both purposes. If you like the .40 cal, Kahr makes a decent carry gun in a small/light package. For a range/home defense gun in .40, I like the mdl 35 Glock. For me it handles and shoots much better than my Glock 22. I' m sure there are many more good choices available for both purposes. Always fun to look!

The only real differences between the two is as you noted - reduced magazine capacity, and barrel leingth.  Since the more compact model feels good in your hand, that is what I would choose, as there is no practical difference in accuracy or control between the two, and it will conceal a little easier.  Although a little on the "thick" side, most guys have no problems using a good inside the waist band holster.  For open carry on your belt, the Kydex paddle holsters work well.  Take what you sometimes hear about Glocks with a grain of salt.  They are by far the most popular police issue weapon in the country, and there is a reason for it.  They just plain work.  I have one of the first model 19's imported, and have been trying as hard as I can to break it these past 25 or so years with many thousands of Govt. supplied rounds.  No luck so far, and my G26, with a lot less rounds thru it is just as reliable, and accurate.

Of the 2 I'd have to vote Glock 23. I have both, in a toss-up I'd go with the 23.

The 22 shoots like a dream. The 23 is easier to carry, but tnds to be a litttle handle heavy in an IWB hoster.
