H&R mod 48.....32" full choke.  It's gonna' be too late though, because the turkeys are getting together already here.

They have a local "turkey shoot" the 10th.  Maybe I can use the old gal to pick up a slab of bacon.

Nothing fancy John.  Just my 12 ga full choke J.C. Higgins pump my dad gave me when I was 14.  2 3/4 Rem turkey loads.  It still drops them.  I enjoy turkey hunting, but I really don't understand all the hype and mystique about it.  They're still just a bird, and I generally don't have a problem getting one.  Chalk box and the old gun.

This year I'm playing with a new to me H&R 12ga barrel 3 1/2" chamber with a tru glo ported turkey choke. Had a Warne scope rail silver soldered on and it's wearing a Tru Glo 2X red dot Shootin Federal 3" #5 turkey loads. Haven't seen any fanned out yet or heard any gobblin, but givin how mild our winter was I'm bettin breading is gunna be pretty much over by may 1st. Probly end up doin alot of run & gun.

I've never hunted Turkeys yet but been thinking about it.  I'll arm up closer to Doublebass73 though.  Just my Pardner 12 Ga with the fixed modified 28 inch (27.5) barrel and a pocket full of six's.  Walmart has some of that #7 heavyweight 2 3/4" out on the shelf but will probably stick with the 1 or 1 1/8 oz of six's.

Since I moved I don't have a good place to hunt in this area . I have a full camo 24' barreled N.E.F. turkey gun made in the 92  that is a death ray . but my turkey gun is a CVA trapper single barrel 12 ga muzzle loader  It has never failed to bring home dinner  ;D

Doc,

I was serious about turkey hunting for one spring  about 10 years ago.  Did everything I was supposed to, including pattering a 12ga Autoloader w/turkey choke to 50 yards with plated shot.  Killed a Tom my first morning at about 35 FEET! :o   Had enough since for a neck shot so I had a nice breast for the smoker that afternoon.  I don't like bugs so I ain't never tried it again.

Going out this year with just my concealed carry piece and a box call.  Good friend of mine has Parkinsons real bad but can still shoot.  I am going to get him into a blind, setup his decoys and do his calling for him as he can't operate a box call.   My friend has killed more deer than I have seen but has never shot a gobbler.  Wish me luck in the calling department I would like to be there when he gets his first bird.

Are you telling me that Wild Turkey breast is full of bugs?  I might just forego this turkey hunting and just call up some coyotes.  Didn't plan on eating them anyway and they need thinning out more then the turkeys do.

The gobbler breast was fine eatin', it was the bugs in the woods that I didn't like.   However, ten years ago I was still building up my stockpile of "AtlLaw shim stock" so if the breast had bugs I wouldn't have noticed. ::)

Like BB, I hate the bugs too, but here on "Da U.P.", we have only two seasons....Shovel and Swat.  Shovel usually stops by April 30 and Swat begins May first.  Black flies first, deer flies second and horse flies third.  June and July you get to enjoy all three.  August they begin to slack off.  Start looking for snow again late September.  Bug dope and head nets are the summer uniform of the day.  If you're going to do anything outdoors, ya just gotta live with it.

Good luck, I hope you all get a bird.
