KY restricts access to cold remedies for the law abiding.

Bill limiting cold, allergy meds passes Ky. Senate        by Associated Press/WHAS11 WHAS11.com Posted on March 2, 2012 at 11:44 AM
Updated today at 12:56 PM        Related:   FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP/WHAS11) – A controversial bill that would restrict the sale of some cold and allergy medicines has just been approved by the Kentucky Senate, but with two significant changes to the original bill.

Cold and allergy suffers would face limits on the amount of medications like Mucinex D and Sudafed they could buy in Kentucky under a bill passed by the Senate on Friday.

In an effort to stop the sale of a key ingredient in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine, the original bill would have required anyone to get a prescription to be able to purchase any medicine containing pseudoephedrine.

The bill that passed 25-11 on Friday would allow Kentuckians to purchase no more than 7.2 grams per month or more than 24 grams in a year. Any more would require a prescription.

Republican Floor Leader Robert Stivers II of Manchester said he would have preferred requiring prescriptions for any amount of medications containing pseudoephedrine, but that measure faced widespread opposition.

all of those types of meds are behind the counter here.  I could be wrong but I think you have to give your name which prevents you from going store-to-store and stocking up.

IN Indiana they keep them behind the counter and you need to show I.D. and sign to get them.

My problem with this bill is that it's just another restrictive law that punishes the law abiding. I have no idea what 7.2 grams per month equates to in pills per day but do know that a lot of allergy sufferers depend on these meds who cannot afford a dr. Execute the makers and sellers, there won't be any users, problem solved. They have been behind the counter here for years too, not sure about signing for it. I quit using sudafed and actifed after open heart 8 years ago, doc says not to take them, they were far more effective than the chlortabs I now take. At least they didn't make it prescription only. BTW, the price went up after you had to ask for those meds. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Its the same way here. I asked and the pharmacist said the limit was still a lot more than you would need for legitamate use. Thank all of the meth cookers for this one.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

Yet another useless law.

I agree it is an infringement on the law abiding, but with Illinois claiming a 70% reduction in meth activity after passing similar laws it was just too enticing...

IMO if we want to stop this kind of BS we law abiding citizens need to quit ignoring illegal activity and first police ourselves, then require the local law enforcement to enforce existing laws.  Otherwise this is a never ending cycle.

It's definately an inconvinence.  A while back all 4 members in our house had a bad cold.  I made a trip to the store to get everybody medicine to help with our symtoms and it took 3 transactions to buy a box of Tylenol cold and sinus.  A box of Dayquil/Nyquil and two bottles of childrens daytime cold relief and nightime cold relief.

While it's a pain in my butt to do this how often do you really ever need cold medicine?  I feel that if it helps keep Meth production down then it's well worth it.  And I live in the Meth Capitol of the World.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

We've started keeping a box on hand for this reason.

I'm not sure this type of legislation actually helps that much.  ???
Oklahoma was the first state to have laws limiting purchase.
We still have plenty of meth labs.  :(
I think the doppers have figured out how to get around it.

Alaska has been doing this for a couple of years.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Cold meds. have been behind the counter for a long time in NY. NY has some strange laws. I had to show id to buy dog food. After i paid for it i told the clerk if they were afraid old people were eating that stuff that is exactly what i was going to do with it.  ;D   Told here it wasn't bad with a little milk on it.

I agree with keith..it is certainly disgusting that the law-abiding must be hampered by the law-breakers !  My wife has, among outher medical problems, Parkinson's disease.  Her prescriptions require one which is a restricted Rx.  Her Dr is about 30 miles from our home and for most prescriptions, when she needs a refill she can just call the dr and he will FAX a new Rx to her pharmacy, nearby at about 8 miles.
The restricted Rx he is NOT ALLOWED to FAX... we must give 24 hrs notice for refill and must pick up the new Rx within 24 hours..thus, we are forced every 3 months to take an unplanned 60 mile round trip...because of irresponsible addicts.  Not only the time, but how much does it cost us extra (fuel, wear & tear etc)..because of dopers ?
I also agree that we should readily turn in any of these law-breakers..exactly what a decent citizen should do...

  Bobg;
I live in WNY and am a bit puzzled by the restrictions on dog food.  I have never run into this...not saying it doesn't happen, anything is possible in the "people's republik of Ny"...  I am really curious however; where and what store tried to restrict you in dog food purchase ?  Send me a PM if you wish..      Ironglow

Sigh, I am really against drug use but maybe if it was legalized the dopers would all die out and normal citizens would be free to purchase medicines and move about the country.

Sounds more like someone fishing for something, or looking for someone.  I have gotten to the point that I challenge any clerk to prove the need to see any of my personal info.  Name address and even a fake SSN and they can have a credit card in your name with your contact info.
