220 Extractor

I got a quick question hopefully someone can shed some light one.  I recently purchased a used 220 at a gun show, it hasn't had more than a hundred rounds through it if that, and I noticed while trying to familiarize myself with it before I head to the range that unless I let the slide slam forward, that it didn't seem to want to consistently extract the (magazine fed) round.  The reason that I ask is because I've also got a HK USP40 that I bought new, and if operated in the same way will always extract the round.  Is this just the difference in an external vs. internal extractor or what?  I've been raised around long guns but have only got into handguns within the last 8 months or so and wasn't sure if I'm just being paranoid or ignorant to how the 220 should operate.  Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

.............Is this a 45acp 220? I haven't had any contact with other chamberings but I have never seen a 220/45 that had this problem...are the loads factory or handloads? ......I would check the extractor and remove it and clean the extractor and recess and reoil lightly......again I have had a lot of sigs and a lot of fellow shooters I know use them and I have never heard of this problem? I shoot a lot of handloads but some might not be to spec on case length or similar is the only reason I ask about them...I have seldom seen a malfuctioning sig unless it was filthy beyond reason.........HTH..good luck and good shooting!!!!

Thanks for the insight bigdaddytacp.  Well, I just got back from the range and I didn't have a single problem with the extractor.  The thing ran like a champ.   :grin: I do have a bigger problem now though.  The trigger is so much smoother on the P220 that I think I'm going to have to get a trigger job on my USP40 so that it doesn't get jealous about all the time I'm going to be spending with the Sig.   Oh well, I guess I need to do my part to help put my gunsmith's kids through college.
