Texas hog hunt for an out of state'r
« on: March 04, 2012, 04:05:09 AM »
I need some info on a Texas hog hunt. I am from Missouri, we will be hunting on Texas private land with permission from the land owner. I went to the Texas web site and it states that you must have a permit ,but I have not figured out how or where to get the permit. I want to hunt legal!Any help with this would be great. Thanks    26-t

They sell a five day permit for hogs/exotics. Used to be $25 and they are sold at all places that sell hunting licenses. I think you can even buy it online. These days I think it's about $35. I haven't hunted in Texas in several years so haven't kept up with the price of it.

A 5 day lic is about $48 and you can get it at wall-mart. I'm also an out of state hunter from Colorado who is looking for a place to hunt. Not looking for a free ranch to hunt just looking for a farmer who needs help, has hogs and is willing to let me come in for a few days. I'm a farm boy from Nebraska and understand what the farmer has to deal with letting me onto your land. I would love to find a new friend who loves to hunt or not.

You will also need a hunters safety card . Or you can purchase a 1 time hunter safety deferral for 10 dollars.

what they said. . . . .

looking at new regs book right now.

non-resident 5-day special hunting permit-48.00

unless you were born sept 2,1971 or after,
i don't believe you need hunter safety cert.
or deferment.

i got one a good while back even though
i don't need it .
at the time they were talking statewide cert.
regardless of age, but now i have it so it's
one thing out of the way.

you might check to see if they reciprocate
if you already have one

good luck

There is no hog problem in Texas.
If there was Ranchers wouldn't want a daily trespass fee for at least a 100 bucks. The State would pay you a bounty instead of requiring you to buy a license when you want to help out someone with a "problem".  ::) ::)

Check another State, you may not need any license at all.

That's great! You either need a hunter safety card or can buy a deferral for $10!

I was going to do a Texas hog hunt a few years ago and did a ton of research online.  Check out the Langley Ranch by Centerville TX.  I have never been there but the reviews looked good and the prices didn't seem bad for what they offered either.

Good luck,

Langleys is near my sisters place. He receives trapped hogs from folks around him and releases them into fenced enclosures of a few acres or so.   I believe he told my sister that he fences 5 acre enclosures and set up hunting blinds in there.  They share on stretch of fence so I've seen some of it, and hear the shots often when I'm over there visiting.  He has a nice place, and they are nice people.  Good luck.

I'm late to the game here, but thought I would share some info.

I've gone from hunting hogs in Texas as a resident to now living in Colorado and headed back this next year to hunt on a friends ranch in the Hill Country.  I called my friend who is a Game Warden in that county to ask him.  He checked the regs and told me that if we are acting as the landowner's agent then we do not need a license.  When we go we will be signing paperwork to that effect just in case.  Now if you are paying for the hunt, then you will need a non-resident special license.  You can also get that same license as a 5-day for $48.

I keep hearing about the terrible hog problem in Texas. I just wonder how much money this problem makes for the state of Texas and land owner's that want you to kill the hogs but to do so you need to takes a whole bunch of services they provide,,,at a cost. Actually it's not just Texas, that's not fair. Seem's like a lot of states have the same problem and want you to come shoot off some hogs,,,at a price! I read  somewhere a years or so ago that the white tail deer is no longer the #1 game animal, the feral hog is! Be nice if the states either claimed they are invasive species or money maker's.

I got paid for ridding ranchers of their hogs.  And if not, I at least got to do it for free.

Dos Plumas......Trent TX.....between Abilene and Sweetwater on I-20.  Friends love it....say it is about 2/3s the cost they have found elsewhere.  They took 7 between the two over a weekend this month.

rode one around on the back of
my britches leg for i don't know
how long one time. those things
bother me more than snakes.
you usually don't notice scorpions
until you feel the hot coal feeling.
