One mans trash is anothers gold

Well i was a cabelas looking for a new 357 lever gun which no one has. Even the distributors are out. I look on the used rack and there is someones trash. A handi 30-30 ejector with the old style open sites and a pallet wood laminate stock. I figure I like the world clean so i picked it up and took it home to my trash bin. Well loaded up some 125 sierra pro hunters with h4895 and hit the range today. needless to say at 100 yards she shoots pretty dam good. Im going to keep her.

They are sweet, mine does not seem to like the heaver bullets very much the 170 grns., the 150's hornady rn it shoots pretty good.

Not too bad for open sites. If you scope it I bet you can hit that dime ;D


I wish my eyes could see the sites :(

Nice shootin! but my old eyes don't like open sites :( . I keep wanting a 30-30 handi, hope I run across some trash like that one day. ;)

Don't know why, but the NEF/H&R 30-30 barrels always seem like good shooters.  Just seems like some H&R barrels are a lot less finicky than others.

I am sorry if I confused anyone but there is no way with open sights I could shoot that good. I scoped it to develop a load and then potentially!!!!! I might consider going to open sights.

Forget the open sites. That's good shootin right there. I shot a couple factory loads out of mine and it looks like it will be a keeper. I had some Sierra 125s #2120 ride along with dies I ordered a while back. I have H4895 also. If you would PM me primer and load you used, just as a curious reference point ;)  And brand case, what the heck ;D
Been on some other calibers but hope to get to the 30s soon. Thinkin about a different scope for the Dirty Thirty than what's on there now. Bushnell 3-9 TOO BIG :-\
Your gonna get bored with that gun as soon as you hit that dime ;D

Get a scope in 2-7x, Nikon, Bushnell, Simmons, even Tasco, leave it at 2x for quick target acquisition, and turn it up to 7x for magnifying power if you need it, that's the perfect power scope for the terrain you hunt with a 30-30.

Well now a problem has come up. I grabbed around 80 cases I had and loaded them all with this load. I refinished the stock and forearm and she is a bute!!!!. I have had her less than a week and she needs nothing else. Now I have to start looking for my next piece of trash at the store. I hate this

I bought three two weeks ago and am kicking myself cause they had one more I would have liked. It I left it..... Seriously considering going back....

I switched to pennys, bigger and more contrast than a dime for old eyes, makes the group look smaller too!!  ;D

Allow me to help you.  Just recycle your trash my way, I'll even pay you a nominal fee to get rid of it for you.  That'll allow you room to accumulate more "trash", which I also will volunteer out of the goodness of my heart to recycle for you.  ;) ;D

 Ya'll are hurtin' my feelings showing off those 30-30 groups!   Mine don't do near's good, just under two inches at a hunnerd's the best mine's done.  "Course I'm shootin' mine at deer, not pennies and dimes, so I guess it really don't matter.   Still hurts tho......

As mentioned this set was pretty ugly but it was a pallet would laminate. I refinished it and the forearm just wish the foream was laminate also. It turned out real good. Dont know what happened to the color on my phone so not the best pic. Think I go tit to work.
