Bow season ends on Jan 31 so i guess I'll give the expandable steelheads one more shot. So far Ive shoot two deer with the rocket steelhead 100's and both had minimal blood trails.
Deer 1 was 120lbs spike, quarter away the shot was high below the spine and did not fully penetrate only about 8-10 inches. Hit part of the liver, stomach and rear lung on opposite side. this deer ran over 110yard with almost no blood trail.
Deer 2 80 lbs BB also shot high just below the spine broadside lungs or only onw lung was hit, knocked the deer to the ground but only about 4 inches of the arrow penetrated. Deer ran about another 200 yards very little blood trail. Good thing I carry lots of flash lights and GPS or I would not have found this deer.
65 lbs Darton Fury
The bow was recently paper tuned
I hunt about 25' up in the tree.
The blades were new.
Carbon 28 inch arrows
THis is the first time I 've tried expandable broadheads, should I go back to fixed blades or maybe just try another brand of expandable BH.
When I shot fixed blades I always had full penetration (good blood trail) altho tuning was a chore at times.
